Rename[edit]

En Wikipedia has moved their articles to "2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami". We may want to move this to match. Rmhermen (talk) 19:44, 17 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Temporarily Oppose for the next week or so, then reconsider. The name on en.wiki seems to remain uncertain; there has already been one successful move nomination and one unsuccessful move nomination on en:Talk:2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. We may want to wait a week or so, for the name to settle. (For example: I am in the U.S. and had not heard the name "Tōhoku" even once until this Wikipedia discussion. The U.S. media uses "Japanese" or "Sendai". I would never think to look for "Tōhoku". But maybe other English-speaking countries are using "Tōhoku" and not "Sendai".) Right now there should be category redirects from other common names to whatever category name is in use, though. --Closeapple (talk) 22:30, 17 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This rename is being discussed again now at Commons:Categories for discussion/2011/04/Category:2011 Sendai earthquake damage. --Closeapple (talk) 03:06, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
