There seems to be some confusion about how to handle the two parts of "Caterham", known locally as "Caterham Valley" and "Caterham-on-the-Hill" within Wikimedia Commons. While Caterham is listed under Towns and Villages in Surrey, so is Caterham-on-the-Hill, yet Caterham-on-the-Hill is also listed as a sub-category of Caterham (over categorisation?).

I suggest that the solution is to do away with "Caterham" and instead just list the two parts "Caterham Valley" and "Caterham-on-the-Hill" separately as sub-categories of Towns and Villages in Surrey. Images would then have to be moved accordingly.

Alternatively perhaps the existing "Caterham" should be renamed to "Caterham Valley"and not made a parent of "Caterham-on-the-Hill". Again images would need to be moved appropriately.

The third option would be to leave "Caterham" and create its sub-category "Caterham Valley" and leave its sub-category "Caterham-on-the-Hill". This would bring the Commons into line with Wikipedia itself which has articles for all three named places.

Possibly, the category "Caterham" should probably be kept as a parent category for both parishes though. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:14, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
