Aargh! Please - please - as this is a British category, could we get rid of this awful Americanism and rename it Railway stations in the United Kingdom? The same applies to the various subcategories.Tivedshambo 16:53, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

I disagree (see the Universality principle in Commons:Naming categories - I have written this page). Rename this Wikipedia article: Train station, and you'll have a argument to rename Category:Train station and its subcategories. --Juiced lemon 20:15, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
I have not made any arguments for renaming Train station to Railway station, either in Wikipedia or here. I have merely suggested that the British category and its subcategories are renamed. See also Category talk:Train stations in England‎. Tivedshambo 21:05, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Proposed rename[edit]

  • Very strong oppose to renaming this category back to train stations. See Commons:Categories for discussion/Current requests/2007/12/Categories of train stations where this category was renamed to railway stations. The phrase train stations is considered incorrect in British usage, and thgerefore railway stations should be used instead. – Tivedshambo (talk) 10:35, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
    • Also oppose to all the sub-categories which have been similarly tagged. – Tivedshambo (talk) 10:41, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Although I prefer myself a UK standard, I can live with the "Train stations" "de facto" standard and the UK "Railway" exception. I will try to keep the exceptions in mind provided that they are documented on the top level category pages. --Foroa (talk) 13:55, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
  • I see this was moved and then moved back. Railway station is the standard scheme for UK railway stations - every enwp article follows a similar basis, and it makes sense to go with consistency there. See Naming conventions (UK stations). -mattbuck (Talk) 18:05, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
