Why should this category be a redirect. If there's a Category:Selfportrait drawings there also should be a Category:Self-portrait paintings. Besides, Category:Selfportraits is too full at this moment. Regards, Vincent Steenberg (talk) 13:16, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good comment, but the problem is that the category above this "self-portrait paintings" painting is called "selfportraits" and contains essentially subcats for selfportraits, predominantly painted ones, but often mixed with drawings. For the older selfportraits, it seems difficult to separate and double most categories (paintings and drawings). For the more modern work, it makes sense to split them in paintings, drawings and photographs (and sculptures ?).
Major categories are now per century and maybe that the best way out is to add to category:20th-century self-portraits: category:20th-century self-portrait drawings and category:20th-century self-portrait photographs while in the 21th century, paintings, drawings and other media could be on an equal level.
I agree that Category:Selfportraits is too full, but adding a "Self-portrait paintings" "side-"category will not solve the situation. A solution is to sort them out in the appropriate century category. But this is only a first idea. Maybe you have better suggestions ? Life can be so complicated ... --Foroa (talk) 17:36, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
yes, but it helps a little bit. It also helps to reduce the number of files in Category:Portrait paintings somewhat and serves as a sub category of this category at the same time. Vincent Steenberg (talk) 20:01, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
