"People's Communes are a kind of "integration of government and society" in mainland China, and are divided into "rural people's communes" and "urban people's communes", and the former is the most famous. The rural people's communes belonged to the main feature of the rural political and economic system under the planned economic system at that time, that is, the rural planned economy era. People's communes are not only production organizations but also grassroots governments. Their common existence period was from 1958 to 1984. They were disintegrated with the establishment of the market economy, and they were all replaced by townships or towns."
