I would like to run a bot to tag images with maintenance request templates. As an example, SelketBot on the English Wikipedia has recently tagged all of the pharmaceutical structure images that were not in SVG format with {{Chemical structure}}. Examples of this (on en) are here. Note that the bot on en has some other functions (tagging certain IP users pages) that are mixed in. Most of the chemical structure images that the bot found are actually hosted on commons and I would like to run it again and tag those as well. -- Selket 05:21, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Symbol support vote.svg Support Personally I dislike big templates that more or less pollute the more interesting parts of an image description. Some templates (mainly removal templates) have a use on top of the page or file discription, while others mainly serve a purpose as additional information and categorisation and can be less high profile. Are you willing to kick your bot and have it tag at the bottom of an image description instead of at the top? On a more general note: I'm all for tagging work that needs do be done at some point in time. Are you planning on following up by starting a project to get the work done after and/or during the tagging? Siebrand 06:59, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
    • I can place the tag anywhere and will gladly stick it at the bottom. If the consensus here is to just add the category label (with no template at all) I can do that too. There is an ongoing project a the English Wikipedia to convert these chemical structures to SVG, and I have done a number myself. I would be happy to formalize a similar effort here. I imagine that any future tags or categorization would occur at the request of a project that already exists and wants to spend its effort editing images rather than finding them. --Selket 19:12, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
      • Thanks. I hope your project takes off. Cheers! Siebrand 20:09, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
  • No objections. However, Siebrand suggestion sounds reasonable. --EugeneZelenko 14:13, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Since apparently Siebrand told Selket where to stick it, I think we're good. :) No objections to what sounds quite useful to me. ++Lar: t/c 23:21, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
