Commons:Batch uploading/Flickr images by user
Flickr batch autouploader
[edit]Is it possible to create some sort of tool to allow a user to upload all CC tagged photos by a certain photographer on flickr? I'm thinking of goldmines like Ferdinand Reus and Babasteve. (I have already uploaded all of Ferdinand Reus's photos manually, which took ages.) Occasionally there is photographer so good that the vast majority of their content is useful.
Possible objections, with responses
- Some flickrstreams are awful and should not be uploaded, and inexperienced users will do this
- The tool could be limited to a trusted list of users if needed, and new users probably couldn't find the tool anyway
- Even good flickrstreams may contain some unuseful or copyvio images
- Uploaded images could be tagged with some sort of tag that gets them autodeleted after X number days, requiring a prompt manual review of all uploads

[edit]SupportI would definitely support this as it would ease our pain in uploading PD or CC-BY/By-Sa image sets to commons. A good collection would of course be The commons that has very valuable images by great authorities.--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 19:00, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
- With the flickr api you should be able to get all info needed. Multichill (talk) 20:18, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
- I now wrote flickrripper.py. It's pretty beta, but I already used it to upload some images. It's part of the pywikipedia package. You need to install flickrapi and PIL to get it working. Multichill (talk) 20:03, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- All of the images that you uploaded from [1] seem to have ended up in the right categories. I don't think you should append links to wp articles though, use an invisible category "Flickr images - description unchecked" instead. Ottre 01:16, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- The images ended up in the right category because I checked the categories before pressing "ok". Sorry, I don't understand what you're trying to say about links to Wikipedia articles. Multichill (talk) 09:48, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- Ah, that makes sense. I was trying to say you shouldn't use the program to auto-link to the relevant wikipedia articles - ie linking all of the words in the image description that are also used as a tag on Flickr. That needs to be done manually in my opinion. Ottre 06:38, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- What makes you think I "auto-link" to Wikipedia articles? Multichill (talk) 10:39, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Done - added to UploadWizard for users with ImageReviewer permission. Kaldari (talk) 19:01, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
