Discussion

  • Bot contributions looks OK, but I think name should be changed to less offensive. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:41, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, I was away... This name is a SUL account. It's a reference to Bender of Futurama: "Bite my shiny metal ass". It's (sort of) a tradition on frwiki to have pun in bots' names. Pleclown (talk) 19:36, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
May be Futurama is great, but no everybody could value such kind of humor. Anyway bot purpose is to do routing things, not advertise particular animation series. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:47, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
Eugene, I don't have a problem with the name. Pleclown operates the same bot on French Wikipedia as fr:Utilisateur:BotMyShinyMetalAss. We should simply concentrate on whether the bot itself is useful, and whether it does what it is supposed to do. I've asked Pleclown to add a note to the userpage on the meaning of the name, so as to allay any problems from editors who don't get the humour....sure, it's quite a funny name. russavia (talk) 15:00, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
I don't think that culture of French Wikipedia is universal and swearing in bot name could be accepted by everybody. Will be good idea to find place for humor somewhere else. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:52, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
  • I'm fine with the name (I wouldn't catgorize this as swearing). If a user was unaware of the reference, they might find the name somewhat offensive if the bot was interacting with them (e.g. delivering messages or applying templates to their talk page), but the current scope of its activities are unlikely to perturb users. --99of9 (talk) 14:16, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
  • I know the contributor. It is a trusted contributor. No problem for me. Ludo (talk) 20:26, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Approved As this bot is not delivering talk page messages (such as say a block notification, etc) the name really isn't a problem, and the contribs look ok. russavia (talk) 00:28, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
