Bot's tasks for which permission is being sought: Uploading de-watermarked versions over images in Category:Images from LivePict (about 900 images) and editing their description to reflect the fact (replace {{watermark}} with {{attribution metadata from licensed image}}). Images with more than one uploaded version(s) have been reviewed one-by-one and I would upload my versions over any images for which the watermark has been removed but no other kind of adjustments have been done (since I believe my versions should be superior in quality in any case). Derivative images (crops, etc.) would be ignored too, of course.

A few words about the watermark removal process, for the curious. The watermarks on theses images were added using the "screen" blending mode, which can be easily reversed, if the mask is known. The removals were done with PerlMagick and jpegtran (I altered only the watermark area, so the editing is almost lossless). About 1/8 of the images were further edited manually to get rid of some leftover JPEG artifacts.

An example upload & edit can be seen here.

Automatic or manually assisted: Automatic but supervised.

Edit type (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): One time run.

Maximum edit rate (eg edits per minute): Pywikipedia default – at most 1 edit every 10 seconds. Can be changed, if necessary.

Bot flag requested: (Y/N): Yes?

Programming language(s): A shell script will call 2 pywikipedia scripts for every single file: one for uploading, the second for editing the file description.

Hmm... I tried to do this but ran into a problem. Non-autoconfirmed users do not have the "reupload" permission, so any uploads I tried to make with my (very new) bot account failed. Any suggestions? Or should I just wait a couple of days and make the required amount of edits? —Quibik (talk) 17:32, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
I changed account status to confirmed. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:54, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
Thank you! I uploaded a sample batch of 29 images. —Quibik (talk) 21:42, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
Looks OK for me. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:47, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
To me, too. If it is not too much work it might worth attempting to keep the XMP-data, especially XMP-exif and XMP-tiff but I see no real loss when these data will go since most (didn't check all) is available in other fields. The embedded thumbnail-image is not updated but this is Ok for me. I hope someone will approve this bot. Nice work and I am probably interested in the source later (but not now). -- RE rillke questions? 13:38, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
The following was added after closure: The bot now preserves this meta-data and updates the thumb. Great & thanks for the good work. -- RE rillke questions? 21:36, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

If there are no any objections, bot status should be granted. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:43, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
