  • Symbol keep vote.svg Keep - This is the official domain of the website (https://www.govt.nz/) and if you look right at the bottom, you will see it ..NZ government releases its images on 2 licenses, Crown Copyright and cc-by-3.0, both are allowed on Commons--Stemoc 03:36, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
  • Pictogram voting comment.svg Comment My understand is that the creative commons licence only applies to the govt.nz site, not the whole domain. The creative commons footer on govt.nz does not mention the whole domain - I think it's referring to the name of the site ... I can see how you may have reached your position though. However, considering the governor general website has an explicit copyright, all rights reserved message on that site, I think that should take precedence over somewhat ambiguous wording on the govt.nz site. As far as I'm aware, material under NZ Crown copyright is not allowed on the commons too (would be helpful if can you link to somewhere which says it's okay? I may well be wrong). (It's a pity, because it's a great image, and we need one of Carter... ) Ballofstring (talk) 03:48, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
It may seem that way but if you go to individual sites on that domain, some have their own specific licences (such as for Teara.gov.nz, its cc-by-nc) and some have none and since they fall under the general arm of the "xxx.govt.nz, we usually take the licence from the main site, btw, the @Copyright NZ next to the cc-by licence may be for the "texts" on the site ONLY..unlike australian and US government, the NZ government rarely have High quality images on their websites and thus there isn't really a need to have individual copyrights on them...regarding crown copyright, certain aspects are allowed bar those which are insignias or logos or images NOT older than 50 years and if they aren't either, I believe their other licence applies..(edit), here is an example of a clear licence from "NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade" its also very clear on the cc-by licence..we can blame the webmasters for not being clear on this but not much we can do, as i said, some have a very clear licence on this on the same domain, so i uploaded from one which was clear..the govt.nz domain is the gateway just like the gov.us is for the US..a few more exmaples of clearer free licenses are Geodata, National Library, State Services Commission, Statistics NZ, Ministry of Justice NZ and many more...I think we may need to create its own "Template:PDNZGov" licence soon....--Stemoc 04:06, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
  • Comment. The gg site does not offer the free license, but even if we refer instead to the policy of the www site [1], it seems quite clear that, unless when specified otherwise, the photographs are not offered under the free license: "All photographic images remain the property of the photographer/s [...] These images are excluded from the scope of the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 New Zealand Licence and may not be re-used without permission from their owners." -- Asclepias (talk) 05:49, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
You are reading it out of context, its applies to all external images, if the image was taken by a NZ government employee then it falls under their licence..images taken at a function hosted by a government minister/official or even the Governor General, unless explicitly stated falls under the NZGovt copyright law which in this case is (cc-by-3.0-NZ) ..the keyword you fail to mention is "Unless indicated otherwise" which means the images on the site is licenced to Govt.nz unless indicated its not..no indication of the image i uploaded belonging to someone not associated with the NZGovernment ..this isn't USA, the chances of images being taken by Getty or WireImage photographer and thus copyrighted is relatively low if at all..Last year, Russavia managed to get the NZDefense force to change their flickr licence to a free once which they reciprocated by changing their site to a free one too..I believe everyone is a bit confused over "Crown Copyright", remember the NZ Embassy is also under cc-by-3.0--Stemoc 10:50, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
  • Pictogram voting comment.svg Comment The govt.nz people have confirmed that the licence at the footer of that website only applies to the site, not the domain. Ballofstring (talk) 04:55, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
    • Nice, but I wish you had asked the right question regarding licensing rights for gg.govt.nz instead, as i have detailed above, some of the sites on those domains have their OWN licences (as mentioned by their twitter) and for those that don't have a direct/clear one, it is possible to accept the main domain licence which in this case is cc-by-3.0..which is indicated on the link they provided and i reiterate, "Unless indicated otherwise for specific items or collections of content (either below or within specific items or collections), all content on Govt.nz is licensed for re-use under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 New Zealand Licence" . --Stemoc 00:23, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

Kept: I tend to agree with Stemoc. Natuur12 (talk) 15:25, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
