Inuit man with a kayak from 1854[edit]

Request: Excellent and valuable but damaged photo from 1854 (Sir Edward Augustus Inglefields expedition). Is it possible to do something? --Dmitry Rozhkov (talk) 11:01, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

Graphist opinion:

How is it, is it satisfying?   ■ MMXXtalk  03:13, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, but the left sholder is still corrupted, the kayaks prow and the part of the paddle disappeared. Frankly speaking I hoped for FP-nomination after retouching. And it seems now that the result is much different from the original. What about leaving the right solid black part, which is lost, not trying to restore it, and concentrate on more careful restoration of the central part: the mans figure, the kayak, the stones and careful retouching the semicircular trace above it. Is it possible? --Dmitry Rozhkov (talk) 03:57, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
FP-nomination?? the quality of original image is very low and pixelated. did you stretch this image to fit it to FP requirements? because the largest file size in flickr is just (560 x 428 pixels), anyway I'll try to upload another one in next few days but I don't promises a featured picture.   ■ MMXXtalk  04:23, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
The image is from 1854, so quality is not so low. It wasn't uploaded from flickr. I changed source links in infobox --Dmitry Rozhkov (talk) 04:59, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
I have uploaded two new versions (one of them over edit1), do you think kayaks prow and top of the paddle should be like (Edit 2) ? I think (Edit 1) is better, by the way, I couldn't find link to larg file at the source that you provided, just a zoom and a purchase link, did you actually purchased this larger version from National Maritime Museum website?   ■ MMXXtalk  03:30, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
Zoom IS the original file: [2] (open zoom on the new page, and you'll see) :) Many thanks for the restoration, I think it's much better now, as it's very close to the original picture. But we can keep both versions, of course. --Dmitry Rozhkov (talk) 10:19, 30 September 2009 (UTC)--Dmitry Rozhkov (talk) 10:19, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
No problem! btw, you didn't say which one is better?   ■ MMXXtalk  18:45, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
I think, the second Edit is better than the Edit1 --Dmitry Rozhkov (talk) 18:55, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
I uploaded a new version using "Edit2", tried to reduce JPEG artifacts.   ■ MMXXtalk  16:46, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

Alisha Klass images[edit]

Yes check.svg Resolved

Request: Both images has serious colour distortions, which are beyond my meagre abilities to correct. If someone could fix these two images up, it would be appreciated. Better yet, if they could give a detailed explanation of how they did it... <G> (There are a significant number of other images from the same source with similar colour problems; if I had a sense of how these two were fixed, I could try and fix the other ones up in the same fashion). Tabercil (talk) 17:17, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Graphist opinion(s):

I think I managed to fix the second image. The most significant tool I used was the "Pick gray point" in the levels adjustment window in GIMP. It allows you to pick an area on the image that should be colored a shade of gray and then applies the necessary corrections. After that I fine-tuned the levels a bit further. I did not have much success with the first image though. The picture seems to be taken under harsh green lighting, so it's difficult to improve. Quibik (talk) 00:17, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
As I see what Quibik have done to improve File:Alisha Klass 0104131.jpg, now I understand how to improve File:Alisha Klass in costume profile.jpg (thanks Quibik!). So, now how about my improvement, do you like it? Ivan Akira (talk) 01:46, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! They look great. But you are right, the first one is a bit too blurry. If you compare both fotos, you have the impression information is lost. But I really don't know if it is possible to do better, the images are really not that good. And btw, if you want to go directly to the sources, you can get them on: [4] [5]. You may be able to make a better job than I did.
Anyway, thanks for the effort! --ecelan (talk) 18:25, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
I gave the second image another shot. Re-captured the image from the pdf file so we had something a little larger to work with. Minor cleanup, some fade correction and minimal smoothing. Jbarta (talk) 20:37, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
The first image, it seems to me, is does not contain a lot of opportunity for improvement. It's not all that bad to begin with. I did however remove the border. Jbarta (talk) 20:58, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

Graphist opinion(s):

✓ Done How's this? —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 23:50, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
What did you exactly do? Separating channels, removing the red channel and recomposing using the green channel for the red one? Esby (talk) 14:56, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
Basically, I separated the image into two layers, one containing the red channel and the other the green and the blue, and used the resynthesizer plugin to reconstitute the burned-out area of the red layer using the green/blue layer as a guide for texture transfer with a rather high weight (around 0.95, IIRC). This got the stone mostly correct, but left some small discolored spots (the white spots on the stone came out blue-green, IIRC) and didn't work very well on the plants at all. I had to do some manual hue/saturation tweaking to get those to look more or less OK. (In hindsight, it might've been better to just resynthesize all the channels, rather than only the red, using the green/blue layer only as a guide, and perhaps to mask out the plants and do them separately. But the way I did it more or less worked, anyway.) —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 13:00, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
I managed to get that result, but that means suppressing the red channel :D Esby (talk) 13:38, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

Advice on an image that hasn't been uploaded yet[edit]

Request: I'm seeking advice on an image I would like to upload but haven't done so yet. As you can see from the web page indicated, the photograph of an oil painting (which was painted c. 1828 and thus probably in the public domain) has been overlaid with text. Is it feasible to remove the text in the bottom right-hand corner that is obscuring the subject's hand and the purported copyright notice ("All rights reserved...") at the bottom, or should I just upload a cropped version that "severs" the subject's hand and the lower part of the painting? Also, I assume that the lower stem of the q in Farquhar at the top can easily be removed? — Cheers, JackLee talk 11:30, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Anyone?? — Cheers, JackLee talk 18:44, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

Graphist opinion(s):

Here is a version with the text removed. However, you'll note that there's some airbrushing behind the text that I wasn't able to remove; you might be able to undo some of it, but I suspect just cropping out the right side might be better. I did manage to get rid of the text on the left and the "q" stem, though. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 21:29, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
Oh, cool. I was just asking advice on whether it could be done and didn't expect you to actually do it! But thanks, I'll upload the image shortly. — Cheers, JackLee talk 04:34, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks very much - I like the result! Kind regards, -- Deadstar (msg) 07:47, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
Good morning! Thanks for the job (I am the uploader), but the result is quite pale and the quality of the image hasn't improved either. I suggest continue using the old one. Elvenpath (talk) 08:03, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
So perhaps remove the tear, but nothing much else? -- Deadstar (msg) 09:16, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
The original has significant fading which results in contrast and color issues. I do not agree that my version is "quite pale" at all, and think the original is very difficult to distinguish detail due to fading/lack of contrast. Something should be done to that original image. Maybe what I did isn't the best solution, but just fixing the tear and nothing else would create an almost "unusable" image IMO. That said, the resolution of this image is so low to begin with, I don't think we should spend too much time on it. Original uploader, do you have a better, higher resolution scan? -Andrew c (talk) 13:44, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
I've also uploaded a darker version. -Andrew c (talk) 13:51, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
I uploaded a version with only the tear removed over the original. I do agree with much of what Andrew c wrote above: both that the image could use further restoration, and that such restoration will be hard to carry out due to the low resolution and heavy JPEG compression of the original image. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 16:29, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Request: Please help remove the black border. Thanks. — Cheers, JackLee talk 06:47, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Graphist opinion(s):

✓ Done. Of course it was 25 pixel border... if it had been 24 pixels I could've just easily and losslessly cropped out it with jpegtran. Oh well. I ended resynthesizing out the extra 1px one each side to minimize generation loss, which was probably needless perfectionism, but it didn't really take that much effort. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 17:55, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks again! I'm curious: why did the 1 pixel make a difference? Why doesn't jpegtran work with a 25-pixel border? — Cheers, JackLee talk 20:09, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
JPEG images are stored as 8x8 pixel blocks (or sometimes 16x16 for the chroma channels), with each block compressed independently. On some excessively compressed JPEG images (like the examples in the article) you can actually see the blocks. Thus, as long as you're just shuffling the blocks around, you don't have to decompress and recompress them and can avoid the loss of quality that doing so almost always causes. (You can also do some manipulations on the individual blocks, like flipping them around, without recompressing them.) This is how jpegtran can manipulate JPEG images losslessly.
Unfortunately, while the JPEG standard allows the blocks at the right and bottom sides of the image to be incomplete, so that the total image size doesn't have to be a multiple of 8 pixels, it doesn't allow such partial blocks at the top and left sides. So jpegtran can only crop off multiples of 8 pixels from those edges. Also, even if you do decompress and recompress the image (which editing it in a raster image editor like Photoshop or GIMP does), you can usually minimize the degradation by making sure not to shift the block boundaries. That's why, instead of just cropping 25 pixels off, I cropped off 24 and "cloned out" (actually, I used the GIMP resynthesizer plugin) the remaining one-pixel border. I don't suppose it mattered much in this case, but for images that are already visibly compressed it can make a huge difference. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 20:51, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

It would be nice to have a photo editor online at Wikimedia Commons, so that everybody would know where the derivative works are from.

Is it okay to post those Kodak kiosk photos we turn into greeting cards, or do we have to create our own templates, using some photo editing or graphic design software? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Renjishino1 (talk • contribs) 14:09, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

I would assume that the copyright to any non-trivial decorations added by a Kodak Picture Kiosk would belong to Kodak. Unless they've explicitly released them under a free license (which is possible — sometimes companies do release such clip art images under terms more or less equivalent to {{CopyrightedFreeUse}}), that would make them non-free. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 10:14, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

I did a quick hack restoration job for fun, but foolishly worked from the JPEG rather than the high-resolution TIF version available from the LOC. It's a bit better than the current JPEG, but it's not as good a job as is possible and desired, given the importance of the subject, so maybe someone else can pick it up. --Ori.livneh (talk) 06:29, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Graphist opinion(s): I have a question: Do we process request for medias not on Commons? The media right now is on en, and under fair use for instance. Esby (talk) 08:43, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Anyone that is able to make the edit can do so. --Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 08:56, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Perhaps to put a better point on it, if a request is not fulfilled at any of the local-language Wikipedias, is there any valid reason that request should not be brought here, to receive assistance from a broader array of graphic artists? Such requests can only improve the various Wikipedias. --Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 09:58, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Our mission on the Commons is free media. Many other language Wikipedias share our mission. English Wikipedia, for whatever dumb reason, allows non-free content, and I believe strongly that none of that junk, contrary to our mission of being free, should be brought here. Maybe we could come up with some compromise, you could post on the Graphic Lab's talk page to request more help on certain non-free files that have become stale on en.wiki? I just think it is contrary to our mission to have such requests in the main request queue, especially when there is another board set up on en.wiki just for this. -Andrew c (talk) 13:23, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
"for whatever dumb reason" shows a distinct bias against the original Wikipedia that made all the rest possible. Thus hostile, please recuse yourself from posting your opinions over the requests of others, if you are not there to make a positive contribution toward that specific request. Put frankly, if you have nothing nice to say, you could post on the Graphic Lab's talk page, this is just being disruptive... --Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 01:31, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Commons workshop aims to enhance Commons files. Files under fair-use rationale cannot be hosted at Commons. There is an english wikipedia workshop, you can freely ask there. My initial question was not about the possibility to edit but about if it should be performed by the people of this (virtual) place. I'll have to ask you to abstain from making further request here concerning non-free medias. Esby (talk) 09:15, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Redundant much? Nobody is suggesting hosting fair-use files at Commons. You can ask all you want, but your opinions were not solicited, hence hold no weight with me. You edit what you edit, I edit what I edit, and you have no control over what I choose to request. This is not your Graphic Lab, that's why they call it Commons. --Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 18:46, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Well, technically you're right, you can indeed ask whatever you want here. However, before relying on that argument too much, you might want to consider that there's also nothing stopping other editors from removing requests they consider inappropriate — at least until it turns into a revert war and someone blocks you both, that is. Generally, we try to decide these issues by consensus, and I think this discussion at least has shown, if it was not evident before, that the consensus on whether the Commons Graphic Lab is an appropriate place to request help on files not on (or intended for) Commons itself is not unanimous. Personally, it does feel a bit inappropriate to me, but since it's not my Graphic Lab either, perhaps we should take this to the talk page and have a quick poll or something to see which way the consensus leans? —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 19:36, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, but I think this one is a tad 'over-corrected.' As this appears to be only one of two prints of the only photograph of Emily Dickinson as an adult, it would look better, I think, with less cropping and perhaps a bit more of the 'older' appearance on the borders. The restoration of her face, though, is masterful. Is there a way to leave the borders a bit less 'retouched' to indicate the age of the daguerreotype? MarmadukePercy (talk) 18:10, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

So, your edit which remove the link to File:Ferdinand von Schill (Schnupftabakdose).jpg should be reverted I think. Ivan Akira (talk) 00:00, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Hello again, Ivan. Thank you for pointing me to this discussion of superseded images, which I was entirely unaware of. Reading through (parts of) the very lengthy discussion, it seems to me that there are two key issues here. One is the matter of licensing, and in the present case that doesn't really matter, because this is a public domain art image. The second, possibly more important issue, is the transparent background of a png image, which apparently is not readable with the Windows Explorer browser. -- With this image, I was concerned that the cloth visible in the background might be protected by copyright. It shows that a photographer at the Berlin Museum was hard at work, and created an original image. The circular image, on the other hand, lacks originality (at least within the past 200 or so years), and therefore can be copied for Wikimedia. -- Now I am wondering whether it is possible for you to change the png image once again, so that a neutral (perhaps white, or perhaps black) background appears where it is now transparent. It would become a rectangular image instead of a round one. That way, it would be possible to upload the image as a jpg which could be opened with all browsers, including Windows Internet Explorer. Graphist opinion(s): ✓ Done: What do you think? Hope I didn't go overboard, I removed some stray specks, and tried to adjust the perspective as well. -Andrew c (talk) 14:46, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Much improved, thanks. One small question. His face looks a bit more corpulent now and not as narrow. Is that from the adjustment in perspective? Might there be a way to retain all the good fixes you've made (removing the flash, taking out the stray specks) but leave the face a little more narrow. Don't mean to nitpick and am very grateful, just wondering if that small tweak is possible. MarmadukePercy (talk) 17:23, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I could do that. But looking at the original, it really looks like to me someone shot this image at an angle. His face looks TOO narrow to me, and sort of squished in at the top right. But maybe that was true to the original, and/or maybe it's just an optical illusion that his face looks squished in the original. And a third option is it was squished, but my version over-corrected and did TOO much in that regard. I don't have an intermediate save point, so I'll have to either start from scratch, or make some perspective changes to the final file to see if I can't recreate the original squished face. Or I can ignore this completely (based on your talk page comment to me).-Andrew c (talk) 23:11, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
Please ignore altogether. It looks good as is. Many thanks. MarmadukePercy (talk) 23:15, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Graphist opinion(s): Stock-brush-red.svg Request taken by GoRight

I've made an attempt at these and uploaded them as derivatives of the originals with the notation that they have been color corrected. I cannot currently upload them with the same filenames because my account is too new so I have used the original file names with "-restored" appended. Is this what you had in mind? I also see that the page that uses these has a couple of additional images with the same issue. I will update those as well and post here in a bit. --GoRight (talk) 06:01, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Here are the other two. Can someone more experienced here please take a look at the way I uploaded all of these files and make sure the license and other information are done correctly? I just used to file uploader and used the option for derivative works but I don't know enough to even check the validity of some of these nuances. --GoRight (talk) 06:22, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Hastdutoene, do you have the original postcard in your possession so that you could provide a scan that is not clipped? Is so, please do and I will straighten the whole thing up and crop as needed. --GoRight (talk) 06:39, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
I went ahead and restored the clipped edges of the postcard by mirroring the opposing sides. I also straightened the image a bit. Since this is a JPEG I cannot provide a transparent background for the background. I have used a compatible neutral color from the image itself as an alternative. If you would prefer I can easily change this into a PNG and provide a transparent background for the image. --GoRight (talk) 17:14, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
GoRight, all what you have done concerning my request was quite satisfying. Also the uploading of the rearranged pictures under a new name was o.k.. So I didn't think it was as hard as it really is. I need to ask, is that building still there? Because I know it would be great to get the image restored and all but...it just seems "very" difficult. If the building is still there, I could attempt to find someone in the area to take a photo. If you still have the original photo, then that would be much better as there are places that repair damaged photos. Anyways, I can't really help you on this one, sorry.

Alas, the original seems to have been quite noisy and strongly compressed, and the brightening also amplified the noise. I did what I could to clean it up, but it doesn't look very nice up close no matter what. Also, I had to crop the image pretty heavily to keep it rectangular after rotation. I tried to pick a crop that would show the mine reasonably well, at the expense of losing the foreground, but I could change it if you want, or maybe even try to resynthesize some fake landscape in the corners to allow a wider crop. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 23:42, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

Request: Remove watermark, adjust levels. Connormah (talk) 00:54, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Graphist opinion(s): Don't think it is worth to work on this images. Plenty of nice illustrations of John C. Calhoun in Library of Congress [6] including low quality copy of requested image [7]. Same for Chester A. Arthur [8]

Why not? This one is probably one of the most cleaned up versions of that image of Calhoun, and with decent resolution. Connormah (talk) 01:57, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
Uploaded from LOC. --Beao 20:13, 18 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Beao. So, for image File:JCCalhoun-hs.jpg, can use the subtitue File:John Caldwell Calhoun.jpg (which means this request is half-✓ Done).
While File:C Arthur.jpg still have to work on, but I don't think it's easy to do that. How about searching in Library of Congress again Beao? Ivan Akira (talk) 03:30, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

I think there is another image that best to replace File:JCCalhoun-hs.jpg and File:C Arthur.jpg, previed on the top... So this request would be stale then, because there is no one who want to work on this request further. Ivan Akira (talk) 03:49, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Remove shoulders[edit]

Yes check.svg Resolved--ZooFari 21:00, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
  • Request: Can somebody remove the front and back shoulders by texture cloning or similar methods in order to make king Michael stand alone in the picture? --Alex:D (talk) 19:11, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
Any other color or contrast improvements, if needed, are most welcome. --Alex:D (talk) 19:13, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
Too much information is being covered by the front shoulders. How would we create the tie and shirt and parts of the jacket that are missing? Removing the back one should be quite easy, but the front is problematic. -Andrew c (talk) 13:27, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
Actually, I think the original image seems quite well composed and it is unnecessary to change it. Alternatively, a crop of King Michael's head and shoulders can be created and used. — Cheers, JackLee talk 18:52, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Hmmm, I'm not sure. The photograph looks somewhat sharper but it is still pretty indistinct. Perhaps we should give up and accept that the picture cannot be fixed. But thanks very much for trying. — Cheers, JackLee talk 09:34, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
Pictogram voting info.svg Info Somebody reverted the edit, by saying that more artifacts of JPEG, Waste of time. I think that the reverted person should edit the file and fix near to a good one...--Common-Man (talk) 11:13, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
Well, "that person" was me. I do greatly appreciate your effort, but I honestly don't think that the image has really improved as a result of the processing. You misinterpreted me by assuming that I complained about JPEG artefacting: what I meant were instead the strong wave patterns and noise created by the editing. I am not saying that your attempt was bad or quick and easy (or a "waste of time"). Rather, I don't think there is really anything that could be done to make the image "work" in the context of Wikipedia. I simply believe the blur is too complex to make the image look good, even with the best tools. I'd rather use the natural looking image. —Quibik (talk) 15:43, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Request: Could somebody do the highlighting better than I did Wuselig (talk) 12:02, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

Graphist opinion(s):Well, its dark ;) I did something and loaded it ontop of your image. You can revert if you don't like it. Amada44  talk to me 18:26, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

You brightend up the whole image, but that is not what I had tried to do. In fact I tried to darken the background and especially the video-installtion in the tower to make the colors slightly brighter there. And I tright to highlight the person alone, but my selection was to fuzzy so it looked too cut-out. I had one version where I used a flash, but unfortunatly it got broken when transferring the image from the SD-Card to my external hard-drive. It wouldn't have been satisfactory either, because the video-installation was half white (must have caught it at the wrong reproduction phase). The whole thing was a chance encouter anyway: There I was taking photographs of the installation, when the artist walks by on his way to the parking lot on his way home.--Wuselig (talk) 20:44, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
No, I did not brighten up the whole image. I only brightened up the dark parts and I even reduced the brightness of the brights parts. Only brightening the person in the front will always end up looking artificial. Amada44  talk to me 16:33, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
Well, since i messed up the flash-version and since it was - as you already said - dark, I guess this is the best we can do. Thanx. I did try with the magic lasso to highlight the person , but I didn't catch the contours well. And yes I overdid it with respect to highlighting, so your more conservative approach does look better. --Wuselig (talk) 20:45, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

Request: Needs removal of datestamp and perhaps some cropping and/or improved contrast or evenness of background white. Thanks! 108.21.40.117 10:59, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Graphist opinion(s):

Partially ✓ Done: I removed the datestamp and the text that was overlaid on the bottom of the image (which I couldn't read, so if anyone who reads Arabic could transcribe it from the original that'd be great). I'll leave the color adjustment and possible cropping for someone else. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 15:13, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

USCG Eurocopter HH-65[edit]

Yes check.svg Resolved--ZooFari 21:05, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Request: I've nominated this as a Featured picture, but it's getting knocked back on a basis of crop too tight. I'd like to ask if the bottom and left sides of the photo can be extrapolated a little, perhaps half or the full width of one of the wheels. Benchill (talk) 00:15, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

Graphist opinion(s): ✓ Done. The sky may have some errors. I will clean them up once you are satisfied with the crop. Amada44  talk to me 19:50, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, that's looking pretty good. Sorry I think the top and right sides were ok in the original, it was just the left and bottom I was after. The left blade appears to droop just a little, and if the crop could be a fraction tighter that would be great. In this photo the rotor has equal(?) sized white & black bands, if the black band goes the width of the white band I think that would be fine. Benchill (talk) 01:54, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
Ah, sorry for the delay. Well, could you do the crop? That was my original idea to give you enough flesh so you can crop. The white stripes can only been seen on the left blade as the other ones are turned and they are only painted white on the top. Amada44  talk to me 18:32, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
I can take care of the crop, no problem. Thanks for the help. Benchill (talk) 02:53, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Viborg Kraftvarmeværk[edit]

Yes check.svg Resolved--ZooFari 21:04, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Request: There are blown areas in the blue neon sign, which I would like to get fixed. I've spend a lot of time working from raws trying to avoid blown areas in the final output (stitch of two photos in PTgui), but the dynamic range in the photo was too large for me to make it work. Since the blown areas are quite small, and it should have a predictable structure, I am hoping someone could help. I can also send the original RAWs on which the image is based if needed. I have another photo from a different angle: File:Viborg kraftvarmeværk at night 2010-12-08 edit.jpg, where the exposure on the sign is better. Maybe something can be color picked from there? --Slaunger (talk) 21:07, 11 December 2010 (UTC) Slaunger (talk) 20:59, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Map McMahon Line Simla Accord Treaty 1914[edit]

Red x.svg Stale

Request: As these maps, which were made available on commons, are now lacking on wikipedia, even though they are of historical importance, I wonder if it is possible for administrator to view deleted images and redevelop some of them legally too. Many thanks in advance. --Rédacteur Tibet (talk) 15:24, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Graphist opinion(s):

The first two images appear to be simple scans of maps from 1914, probably prepared by the British government at the time. Assuming that these are indeed crown copyright works, and that they were published soon after their creation (or at any time before 1960), they could probably be restored and kept under {{PD-scan}} + {{PD-UKGov}}. (The watermarks stamped on the images do not themselves make them copyrightable, and in any case could be removed.) The third image appears to have some recent additions (colored border lines), but I'm not convinced they're original enough to be copyrightable, and in any case they could be easily recreated from the fourth image. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 15:07, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Many thanks for your response and analysis. I though these important historical maps were not copyrightable. They will be of use appropriately on several articles on wiki. --Rédacteur Tibet (talk) 11:43, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
