Commons:Monuments database/Unused images
This page contains an overview of Unused images of monuments. It's nice to have a lot of images of monuments here on Commons, but it's even nicer to also have these images in use on Wikipedia. You can help by adding these unused images to the lists on Wikipedia. To help you with this task, the 'unused images' pages have been developed. They display per country-language combination which monuments do have photos available, but do not have a photo yet in the monument lists. All the pages and the statistics are updated on a regular basis by a bot based on the data in the monuments database.
How does it work?
Every night a ErfgoedBot updates the Monuments database with all the lists we have on Wikipedia. After that is done the bot loops over all the categories of cultural heritage monuments with known IDs. If it finds an image of a monument for which the corresponding Wikipedia list entry doesn't have an image, it will be reported on the unused images page.
How can you help?
Go to the unused images page (linked below). You'll see multiple images in a gallery. In the description of the image is the identifier which links to the relevant list. Open the linked list, and check if it's a good image to describe the monument and add it to the list entry. You might be able to choose from multiple images for the same identifier (they are grouped together).
After you added the picture to the list, the next time Erfgoedbot runs over that list (probably tonight), it will remove that monument from the unused images page (but you can also remove them yourself to keep a clear overview) and add new ones. There is a maximum of 1000 images for this page, for performance reasons. You probably want to add the unused images page to your watchlist so you can add new images every day. You can try to keep the list empty, or just do a few every day. If many people do a few, the work is done quickly!
