I would like to be a filemover as I have uploaded many images and will do so in the future and may make a mistake in the file names and I'd rather correct them myself than ask an administrator, I also have this right on the English Wikipedia and I have made use of it several times, without causing problems for the admins there) Thank you. ✓ Done seems to be ok a×pdeHello! 17:19, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

To facilitate the usage of pictures in Wikipedia articles, I requested many renamings of files with names like DSC00428.JPG (link). This in agreement with Commons:File renaming#What files should be renamed?, the second aim: 'change from completely meaningless names into suitable names, according to what the image displays'. It would be more efficient if I could do the renamings myself. If you would grant me this right, I will not use it for anything beyond the guideline. I applied before in November, but was considered not to have sufficient experience yet. Now I was asked to apply again. Thank you. Ices2Csharp (talk) 17:30, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

I offer to help you by renaming for example previously unidentified things or files with misspelt names myself (and not forcing others to do exactly that), hoping you give me a "trustworthy" rating. I am requesting the File Mover right so I have the ability to rename files. I have read and understand Commons:File renaming, and would mainly use this ability for Reasonings 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6, and this would pertain mainly to the subject of coats of arms, seals, flags and other symbolism. A majority of my proposed renames have been accepted, and I believe this ability will enhance my contributions to Commons. Thank you. Fry1989 eh? 22:43, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
Pictogram-voting-question.svg Question I have reservations with this request. There have been disputes on some of your edits (POV). How about this? a×pdeHello! 23:13, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
If you are more specific, I can address your concerns. However, I think I've shown the opposite in the past, for example the flag map of Serbia issue where users were edit warring over whether the map should or shouldn't include Kosovo, it was I who insisted on there being two maps, and they be named one "with Kosovo" and one "without Kosovo". I also did the same with the Serbian flag maps with the EU flag superimposed, and infact after File:Serbia EU (with Kosovo).svg got renamed to remove "with Kosovo" by User:WhiteWriter (a bad faith move considering te contentious issue of Kosovo's status), it was I who noticed and asked Zoofari to move it back to "with Kosovo", and to have both protected so the fight over the Serbian maps would stop. I believe that shows I do have an ability to be quite impartial despite my personal views. Fry1989 eh? 23:32, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
  • Symbol oppose vote.svg Oppose You asked for these rights under four months ago, and were declined partly because of the disputes you were involved in. You said "my past disputes have become controversial, but i would like to over-come that", but unfortunately that has not happened. --99of9 (talk) 23:22, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
Wrong, I was opposed by an admin who showed hypocrisy in file naming. He claimed I would not be a good file renamer, because he didn't like some of my proposals, meanwhile, I had proposed a set of about 20 images to be renamed (all for the same reason), he renamed half of them, then suddenly stopped the other half and said "not a good reason to rename". Now, I am requesting the right to rename. I have proven that I am impartial in file renaming, whatever you can say about my personal disputes about content, format, and use, I have always remained impartial in file naming (as proven above). Unless you have a reason regarding file moving for my request to be opposed, then I reject your above statement. Fry1989 eh? 23:31, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
Well, you are talking about another reason your nomination was not supported. I haven't looked through your last four months of rename requests, so I can't comment on that. But in general, I don't limit the scope to considering only your renames. When extra rights are requested, I also consider the general mellowness of the user, and their wider editing patterns, because I have no interest in controversy being extended to additional areas of Commons. --99of9 (talk) 23:42, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
Well then let me give you a little insight on my renaming practices, if I may. I general propose renames to change useless names to meaningful ones[1], or when there are spelling errors[2]. I have also proposed renames to set a common naming scheme[3], and have in atleast one instance, proposed a rename to create and maintain neutrality in a contentious political debate (the Serbia flag maps above). I have had several proposals rejected, and many more accepted. While some of my renames may have been considered unneccesary, you will not fine a single rename proposal by me which was found to be politically motivated, or bad faith. As for any of my disputes, you will find that they have always been kept separate from my views on naming, and infact the Serbia map issue shows that, as while I was in dispute over what map should be used and such and such, I kept a neutral point of view regarding the names of the maps. I have shown that I can keep things separate. Fry1989 eh? 23:52, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
  • Symbol support vote.svg Support - What do disputes have to do with moving files? Fry has been here for ages, has 10s of 1000s of edits, does more for seals, CoAs and flags than pretty much anyone. Moving files is hardly difficult, it doesn't involve interaction with people. Either the request meets the rules or it doesn't, either the suggested filename is appropriate or it isn't. I can't see anyone with Fry's experience screwing that up. And, in the absolute infinitum of probability he does then 1) it proves he's human, 2) take the right back off him. It's not as if he's going to bring down WMF with a filemove now is he? I think holding back this right is more about holding back a treat from a naughty child than it is about whether or not Fry can do the job. Give him the right, sit back and see what happens. What's the worst that can happen? --Fred the Oyster (talk) 00:09, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
So I'm still waiting for an answer, more than a week after I've requested. I've already been able to show that even when I am directly involved in a dispute over a file, I am objective regarding naming of said file, which is more than many can say for themselves. The fact that I am objective and positive regarding file names, no matter what dispute I may be involved in, should quell any concerns reserved about me abusing this right for personal gain in any argument. Fry1989 eh? 20:42, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
Is anybody goingg ot answer me? I have been able to answer what is so far the only concern raised about me gaining this right. It shouldn't take nearly 3 weeks for an answer to my request, and unless there are any other concerns to be raised, i see no reason for me not to have this right. Fry1989 eh? 20:27, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
Go on, give Fry the right. You can always revoke it if something untoward happens. Cloudbound (talk) 21:34, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
I've got two supports now. No other concerns have been raised besides the one I've already addressed. I shouldn't have to wait nearly 4 weeks for a decision here when most people get a yes-or-no within a few short days, and whether you think I should get the right or not, I do have a right to an answer. Fry1989 eh? 20:13, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Well, no move reasons. Did you read Commons:Rename? --Saibo (Δ) 13:52, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
Yes, you must be careful. 1) Use a summary, please. 2) Consider using move&replace: Special:GlobalUsage/0375_aquaimages.jpg has still usage and there is no Commons-Delinker command. 3) My View: Either Commons is a wiki and you allowed improving or not. Uploader's request is the silliest thing, I've ever heard of. This is just all caused because we have no real permanent links. -- RE rillke questions? 14:45, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
I felt that the name changes were pretty self-explanitory as meaningless->descriptive, but I will use move summaries for Commons moves from now on. I did read Commons:Rename several times, and there is no mention of edit summaries. If that is something that is going to be held against editors then perhaps the page should be updated to reflect that. Also I will replace any moved files with their new names in articles; even though the images still display properly, it doesn't reflect on usage properly, so it is best to update the articles. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja (talk / en) 00:51, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
Using edit-summaries is always appreciated. For various reasons: Reading the log, preventing questions like "Why ..." or useless reverts. Yes, images show up as long as the redirect is not deleted and the file is not moved again. Files transcluded through redirects may cause problems for JavaScript applications. The redirect is also an easy target for vandalism and the global usage is targeted to the redirect not to the actual file. BTW, it reads completely meaningless. -- RE rillke questions? 21:46, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I'd like to request rights for moving files. I've been uploading files to the Commons for years, including dozens or hundreds of scans of books and narrations of texts for use at Hebrew Wikisource, where I am a beaurocrat. Many (or most) of these kinds of files are difficult to name in ways that are understandable, succinct, and useful within large groups of related files. At Hebrew Wikisource we prefer that files be uploaded here at the Commons rather than locally (so that they can be used on multiple projects), but this creates problems for people who don't know how to name them appropriately. At Hebrew Wikisource I get requests from people who have uploaded files here to improve the filenames or show them how to do it appropriately, and it is frustrating having to rely on "rename" each and every time. I'd also like to clean up and appropriately label the huge number of files in the subcategories of Cantillation. Thank you. Dovi (talk) 17:15, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Could you give two examples of those meaningless bio-names (without being wrong), one you would want to rename, the other you would keep according the policy? --Dereckson (talk) 15:53, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
Searching in my old imports (my first one was RSCN3649.JPG x|) I would say for example Larve d'éphémère.JPG into Ephemera danica larva.JPG if the species is identified, or Obrimus asperrimus (Safari Park Vergel, Espagne).jpg into Unintentified pashmid (Safari Park Vergel, Espagne).jpg since it's not the right species. I would not rename MilvagoCarunculatusIbis.jpg into Phalcoboenus carunculatus Ibis.jpg because the genus is now Phalcoboenus and Milvago carunculatus is now an old synonym (or to add spaces in the file name), neither Carcharhinus melanopterus Luc Viatour.jpg into Carcharhinus melanopterus head.jpg... Would you entitled to do those corrections if you weren't the uploader? --Dereckson (talk) 07:32, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
I would be able to correct the latter two, as they are misleading or have mistakes in them. Renaming File:Massages.ogv is a bit less justified, since it's not a completely meaningless name. A file for Santa Fe that's a caboose photo just named ATSF.jpg needs a more descriptive name than the example given. We hope (talk) 22:21, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
Done. Thank you for the information supplied. Please note a file could also be found though search engines (MediaWiki internal or Google) per its description, and so the file name isn't the only relevant element to find a picture. Please also read the W3C recommendation Hypertext Style: Cool URIs don't change. to know why we try to have as very few renames as possible and a rather strict rename conditions list. Right granted. --Dereckson (talk) 09:57, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

I have uploaded a large amount of my own images of samurai armor and weapons, many of these items have several names and it would be very helpful if I can go back to my old images and update the file name to a more accurate name, some of these items are very rare and it takes a lot of time and research to find the correct names. Also from time to time people upload images of samurai armor and weapons without knowing the correct name and I would like to be able to correct obvious inaccuracies that may be misleading. Requesting right to rename files because I have uploaded images and sometimes overlooked assigning a descriptive filename, as I did today. At other times, I see files with such unhelpful filenames as DSC0025.jpg which could use better names. I am one of the English Wikipedia's main road sign diagram makers, and as such I frequently upload large batches of route markers to Wikimedia Commons. It doesn't happen much, but I've occasionally uploaded a file with the wrong name or with a word misspelled. I am submitting this request for the filemover right so that I can make my own corrections when needed, thus relieving the workload on Commons' admins and filemovers, and I am also interested in helping with any backlogs of rename requests that may arise. I have been an active contributor to Commons since 2006 and have been an administrator on the English Wikipedia since 2007. Thank you. TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 04:11, 24 March 2012 (UTC)

As you can see, i'm working on the graphic labs, shoving images from the german wikipedia to commons and create images by my own. It would be a great help, if i would get filemover rights Thank you. Grunpfnul (talk) 03:36, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
Can you show us a few examples where you would have exercised your filemover rights if you already had it? --Sreejith K (talk) 05:54, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
According to the guidelines for renaming, i would take (as example) the file - it's a portrait of fishes (refer to the discription of the picture) in the vietnamese art of painting called "Dong Ho". I would check these on google and wiki articles (like ), which gives me information about the picture and that it is a "good luck wish" called Cá chép - so i would suggest that i have two possibilities
  • 1. I use the transcripted name version and use english language
  • 2. I take an original vietnamese name
In favour of the original vietnamese name, i would rename the file to the propper naming of Tranh Đông Hồ - Cá chép.jpg
So, this would be my workflow - sorry for only one example, but i'm fresh from work and got heavy headache :-/ Trying to type some way of correct english tires me at the moment. --Grunpfnul (talk) 20:09, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
So, a new morning - next example: is a map of the city district Kinzweiler by the city of Eschweiler (oh god, i hope it's correct typed - my english...), so the naming is somewhat inaccurate. If we take a look at the other pictures of the category, i would probably suggest the name Ew_map_of_Kinzweiler.jpg --Grunpfnul (talk) 07:29, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
Next one: at this file, i would take the german language for renaming (i could have taken it for kinzweiler.jpg too, but the filename would have been much longer for that file in german), so i would take the name Ew_Sonnenuhr_st_peter_und_paul.jpg --Grunpfnul (talk) 07:29, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

Filemover: I have this on en.wp and generally use it to either move files from generic names like IMG0489.JPG to something intelligible or to move to make files conform to conventions (e.g. File:BRITNEYSPEARSCOVER.jpg to File:Britney Spears - Album.jpg) I would use the right the same way here, occasionally going to Special:Allpages/File:IMG and seeing what I could do. I'd like to have the Filemover rights first because I'd like to help for Media requiring renaming. Also I'm the organiser of photo contests in Canada (Wikipedia Takes Montreal, more recently Wikipedia Takes Quebec city and finally Wiki Loves Monuments 2012 Canada next September). I always explain our file naming policy to participants, but sometimes they don't follow this guideline, or they just misspell. I'm using {{Rename}} a lot and I think it would be more efficient if I can have this right (BTW, thanks to Materialscientist who's who helping a lot last couple days!) Thank you. Benoit Rochon (talk) 11:55, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
✓ Done I also assigned 2 more rights so you don't have to ask for them separately because I like your use of edit summaries and constructive contributions, thus trusting you not to abuse them. If you want me to remove them because you don't want them (e.g. users with mobile devices don't like rollback), please let me know. Beware filemoving should be only done if required. There are sometimes semi-cryptic file names and the uploader gets upset if you move such a file. Use it with care and care for CommonsDelinker replacing usage (Move & Replace. In case of script errors you have to complete it manually.) -- RE rillke questions? 16:24, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

Okay, so I'm sporadically active here and I have to rely on my enwiki credentials to prove I can be trusted not to break the wiki. However, I have ~1800 edits to Commons (mostly categorisation), and I'm an OTRS agent, so I have a grasp of how things work. I've just got my teeth into sorting out images of Coventry and I've found an entire category full of images with the wrong street name in the title (two tagged for example purposes), so I thought I'd offer to do my own dirty work instead of adding to backlogs. :) Thank you. He told me he did a mistake and asked me to rename the file, but, I do not have the option, so I have asked him to follow standard channels. I have felt necessity of this option few more times too. I have Filemover rights in Wikipedia (I have read guidelines) and some experiences too! If there are lots of pending tasks here in Commons, I can try to help there too! ) Thank you. We generally grant filemover rights with 1,000/1,500 edits - though we obviously look at their (cross-wiki) experience as well. Trijnsteltalk 15:50, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
I guess the "Cross-Wiki" factor worked in granting Hoo man filemover status @ a time when (s)he had < 1000 edits. Hindustanilanguage (talk) 15:57, 14 July 2012 (UTC). :

I don't think you understood me. It's not only about the 1,000 edits - it's about the experience and the need for the rights too. Right now I don't think you've shown a need for the filemover flag. Besides that I also think you're not experienced enough in renaming files. Please use {{rename}} for a while and re-apply later. Trijnsteltalk 19:43, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
Could we stop pointing people to {{rename}}? There is a nice, (not so new anymore) intuititive RenameLink. -- Rillke(q?) 19:54, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
Why? Both can still be used IIRC. Trijnsteltalk 20:34, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
Of course. But for the sake of a consistent behavior across namespaces (how you move articles) and because {{rename}} does not show the policy, I think using the link is better for users. In the end, the script will just place rename to the file description page. I believe it is beneficial if users can apply what they learned here ("how to rename/move") to Wikipedia, thus improving the user experience. -- Rillke(q?) 20:52, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

14,000+ edits in Wikipedia, 1200+ edits here! I have ±200 file uploads here! --Tito Dutta (Send me a message) 23:19, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
And please describe what made you "think" that I am not experienced in (re)naming file! --Tito Dutta (Send me a message) 04:27, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

But you hardly have any experience in renaming files. No deleted contribs here in which you requested a rename. On the English Wikipedia you have filemover rights since 24 May 2012. Since then on you used it only two times: see the move log overthere. On Commons there are many more requests for renaming and you should know when to rename and when not. Right now I'm not convinced you have enough experience to do that. Please use Help:RenameLink for now. Kind regards, Trijnsteltalk 10:18, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
The above section was copy-pasted from my user talk page. Please reply here instead on my user talk. Thanks. Trijnsteltalk 10:20, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
Well done! Your last post (with my edit logs, move logs etc) clearly shows your preparations before posting. Though you are talking against me I must appreciate it. A well prepared and well written post is better than 10 meaningless posts. An now, let me try to answer your questions–
"Since then on you used it only two times" – Please see w:Category:Wikipedia_files_requiring_renaming– there is almost nothing to do there and most of times I find the category empty and I don't rename until I am 100% convinced that the file should be renamed.
I have read those "When and what to rename and not rename" very carefully. I request you to check my upload log, yes, I agree sometimes my fine names are too long, but, I always try to choose descriptive file names.
I have uploaded 50+ images in last 2–3 days, currently I am working in this Commons page: Swami Vivekananda (this page is under construction), I'll upload at least 50–60 more images in next few weeks for this page. Filemover right is helpful, when you are uploading bunch of images. --Tito Dutta (Send me a message) 10:48, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
Could you give me examples of file names you would change? To which name and why? Trijnsteltalk 11:08, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
Some files I'll rename– if a name is misleading (for example a file name "Person X in 1984 in Greece", and if I see actually the file is not of 1984 Greece and if I get some good sources in support, I'll rename it after getting rename request. Having a misleading file name is very harmful– because all search engines including Google will start showing that image link in first page of search result, from there some other people will copy and post in their website, blogs with same wrong, misleading information. Thus it'll create a black circle in world wide web. (Do you want live example?)
Some renames I'll try to skip– 1) if I find the file has other major problem (for examples, someone thinks the file is definitely a copyright violation), I'll not rename it until copyright question is solved. 2) I know I like the detailed and descriptive file names for my own files (I mean the files I upload), but, I'll not rename files just because the newer name will be more beautiful than the older name (eg. Christmas fest.png → Christmas Festival.png (let's consider this is not an uploader's request). --Tito Dutta (Send me a message) 11:51, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

I took a look through your rename requests, and unless I missed a few, this was your most or second most recent. I'm not comfortable with it. I'll give some other recent requests a look through, but I'm inclined to decline right now. Sven Manguard Wha? 01:53, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
More spot checking; This and this, while understandable, strike me as being... well... kinda unnecessary. I'll let someone else decide what to do about your rights request. Sven Manguard Wha? 02:21, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
I'm not sure why you feel those rename requests were unnecessary. In the case of [13], "Marina Bay Sands mall" is not the correct name of the building, which is "The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands". As for [14], there are numerous bodies of water in the Singapore Botanic Gardens and describing the one depicted as a "pond" is inaccurate, which is why I requested for it to be renamed as "Symphony Lake" which is its proper name. Finally, as regards [15], "Forest Walk.JPG" was a completely unspecific name. The new name reflects the fact that this particular forest walk was part of the Southern Ridges in Singapore. — SMUconlaw (talk) 16:30, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

I’ve done a large number of rename requests to harmonize the file names of sets of SVG files (the probably infamous RDT BS icon set), and I would like to have the filemover right so that I can do these re-names myself. I never asked for a file move without some kind of consensus among the other Commons editors envolved in this project when it come to new names, and tried to enforce agreed naming policies whenever I spotted a misnamed/obsolete filename. I’ll be able to do that faster with filemover’s rights — but I will keep on renaming (under #6) only by consensus. I will also be able to help by renaming files as resquested by regular users (like I have been requesting myself till now), and I declare I made myself familiarized with the relevant guidelines. Thank you. -- Tuválkin 00:00, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
For some reason (bug?), this rq keeps being added at the bottom, under wizard, instead of under filemover. But it is filemover rights I want, not wizard’s. -- Tuválkin 00:02, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Obsidian Soul[edit]

I'm an experienced editor in the English Wikipedia with about 20,000 edits, I have around 2000 edits in Commons and have uploaded at least 500 files. I edit biology and paleontology-related topics and upload a lot of pictures related to the articles I make, I often have to request the renaming of unidentified or misidentified pictures of taxa. Sometimes twice in a row (which is embarrassing) like recently when I'm unsure of the ID. I'm not very involved in anything else in Commons, however, and have no plan to do so. I'm requesting the right simply for convenience in the previously mentioned area of my work in enwp, specifically file renaming reasons #3 to 5. I will not touch any other files, and have no plans to patrol rename requests, much less contentious moves. So just tell me if that disqualifies me, it's all good. Thank you. I am mainly active on files concerning France and sometimes work on identifying locations on images. I got 5,959 Edits since Nov 12, 2008. Thank you. Stanzilla (talk) 21:02, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Frank Schulenburg[edit]

I've been contributing to Commons since 2005. This year, I started to be more active – mostly due to the fact that I bought my first digital camera and got into photography. Now, I would like to give something back by helping with Category:Media requiring renaming. I won't be able to do this very often and my focus will still be on contributing quality content. However, I believe that every contribution – be it even small – can make a difference. Thank you. Frank Schulenburg (talk) 03:20, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

(EDIT CONFLICT) Erm... so I was looking at your contributions and you have made more edits on October 10th than some admins have in total. Mind you this is because you're using (or at least look like you're using) an unapproved and unflagged bot through your main account, which is a "bad thing", but I'm not going to block you or anything because I didn't catch it while it was happening and I honestly don't know the bot policy on this project well enough to be sure that I could back the block up if questioned anyways. Since I'm not going to sift through thousands of identical auto/semi-automated edits, and the toolserver screamed in pain, collapsed to the floor, and just started twitching when I asked X!'s counter to do a run on you, I'm kinda stuck here. Any other admins have any advice (on either this or the bot thing)? Sven Manguard Wha? 05:12, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
Well, it looks like INeverCry gave it to you. I suggest that you make sure you're in compliance with Commons' bot policies. I can't tell if you are or not, and we're rather laid back here so it's likely no one will care unless something goes wrong, but still... Sven Manguard Wha? 05:13, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
Cat-a-lot is not usually considered to require a bot request. If you're using anything heavier than that, pop on over to Commons:Bots/Requests and let us know what you're planning. --99of9 (talk) 05:43, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
I don't have a bot, I use cat-a-lot. You should have seen how many images relating to the Japanese American internment were buried away in the uncategorized NARA category! Yes, I ran up over 5,000 edits in one day just moving them (there were more than 500 images of places like Manzanar and Heart Mountain: I've never seen anything like it). If there is something unethical about making that many edits at once with cat-a-lot, please let me know, but it was really easy picking for something that really needs to be done (working in the uncategorized backlog is a big priority for me). Anyway, thanks for the filemover privilege: I'll use it wisely! Michael Barera (talk) 14:35, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

I've been bulk uploading galleries of Medieval manuscript scans, which task generally has required ten or twelve renames per manuscript, but now it's come to my attention that every image in Category:Fechtbuch (Talhoffer) and Category:Alte Armatur und Ringkunst (Thalhofer) should be moved in order to match standard naming conventions (esp. proper folio numbers). Thank you. :~ Michael Chidester (Contact) 18:45, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
As long as an individual set follows a consistent naming convention, and you're not doing the moves purely because a bot requires a different naming convention and the bot itself can't be convinced to accept the convention you choose, I would think that you shouldn't go mass renaming your uploads. As to the first part of the request, the regular old renaming, I can see a use for you having the right. Since I am most certainly not going to dig through thousands of uploads to try and find rename requests that may or may not be there, and since you're already trusted enough to run an upload bot, I'm just going to give it to you. Make sure you read the instructions. Sven Manguard Wha? 22:50, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

Greetings. Been working with the Ford Library partnership recently, where it would be useful to correct image file names by hand. Thanks! Arbitrarily0 (talk) 00:46, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
✓ Done. Please review Commons:File renaming before using the tool - remember that the renaming rules on Commons are somewhat different than those on en.wikipedia. Happy editing! --Philosopher Let us reason together. 04:30, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

I would like to be able to rename files that I have uploaded with an incorrect name. I have user pages at English Wikipedia and German Wikipedia with more information on my work to date. Thank you. Jdsteakley (talk) 22:41, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

Optimist on the run[edit]

Mainly to rename and standardise my own uploads, particularly my earlier uploads which start with my old user name, but I also request file renames for other photos from time to time (usually for having meaningless names). I'm an administrator on en-wiki. Thank you.   An optimist on the run! 09:23, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

Karl Gruber[edit]

Mainly I work in WLM, and here for all in Slovakia baut also in Austria, and so it would be easier to rename files with simple names from new user. But also in other themes I work since nine years :-) --Thanks in advance --K@rl (talk) 09:51, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Uzma Gamal[edit]

I've been with English Wikipedia and Commons for a while. I just started working with the Ford Presidential Library - Commons partnership Category:Commons partnerships to bring the digitized Ford Presidential Library into Commons. See discussion at User talk:Bdcousineau, one of the top people at the Ford Presidential Library. In discussing what to name the uploads, I've been creating example files, which need to be moved/renamed (as I just requested). I would like the filemover right so that I can move my own files. Thank you. Uzma Gamal (talk) 12:10, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
Doesn't meet the usual requirements, but given the special situation ✓ Done King of ♠ 12:35, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Hello! I am an active member on English Wikipedia with 15K+ edits and also active on Commons with nearly 5K edits. It would be of great help if i have this right so i don't have to place requests and bother other users. I have been around for quite a long to understand our naming policy. Also i am a license reviewer here. Thank you. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 03:47, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

Was a bee[edit]

Hello. I am uploading science related images and diagrams to commons. About 10000 edits on Commons during 6 years. I want filemover rights for fixing my misspelling of own upload images (as an example, I uploaded File:Uman_skull_-_animation4.gif. But this must be named as File:Human_skull_-_animation4.gif. This is just one example. There are some other misspelling in my uploaded file name). Thank you. --Was a bee (talk) 09:27, 25 December 2012 (UTC)

Two moves I wanted to do with this are 1 and 2. Not sure I have over 1000 such edits, but the toolserver is down. Admins are clearly overloaded. I would respect COM:MOVE, of course. Thank you. Elvey (talk) 15:19, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
