Diashow information of „Art-Galleries“ e.g. Category:Renaissance paintings of Madonna and Child from Italy

For „Art galleries“ IMHO more topics/information is needed. So I need to see the Museum (institution/gallery), perhaps date, year, medium. Birth- and death date is double by artist template. IMHO normdata is not needed. Perhaps you can improve this.––Oursana (talk) 18:15, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

New gadgets for commons

3 useful gadgets for commons (fixsidebar, fixtopbar & userinfo)

Hi My Associates, I had a discussion with dear Rillke, (here) and He suggest me for leave a suggestion here and give a more information about these gadgets! Ok. We have a some useful gadgets in Persian Wikipedia (fa.wp) and I think We need some of them in commons. I could not describe about all of them very well, So I made a video clip about 3 gadgets (at first part- fixsidebar, fixtopbar & userinfo) and I need Your idea about this suggestion. --MehdiTalk 12:05, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

I tried userinfo.js and found it very useful (though I can't read Persian...). However, I believe that my version of the script is even better: it doesn't use global functions, and uses MediaWiki's system messages for localization, so that you can view most parts of the information in your language, without built-in i18n. --Ricordisamoa 19:32, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
We had an over active user in fa projects of Wikimedia. His username's was reza1615! He is a Architect (PHD) from university of Italy! He made and import lots of useful gadgets in Persian Wikipedia from other projects of Wikimedia. He made this gadgets based on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Fran Rogers/dimorphism.js // and on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Splarka/sysopdectector.js! If You need a Persian translator, I can translate some part of any gadgets. (I'm not native in English but I'm not very bad).--MehdiTalk 20:28, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
First, thanks for proposing these gadgets. Using a video to present is quite innovative too - but I will describe them below:
  1. Fixsidebar makes the left-hand sidebar (containing the Toolbox, Commons logo etc) "fixed", i.e. it is always visible and doesn't scroll with the page. If it doesn't fit on the screen, it gets its own scrollbar.
  2. Fixtopbar makes the top "bar" (we don't normally think of it as a bar... or at least I don't) containing the View/Edit/History tabs etc fixed, so that it's always visible. The scrollbars scroll the page content below the bar.
  3. Userinfo gives you some info about the user at the top of the user's userpage.
Second, it would be nice to be able to test these on Commons. We can use the fa scripts directly in our Common.js for testing purposes (at least the first two don't really need localization, do they?). Can someone (Ricordisamoa?) just give us the code to paste into our common.js pages?
Third, I definitely want a userinfo script. I've used these in the past on English Wikipedia, and they are certainly useful. If Commons doesn't have one (and I'm not aware of one), it should. Rd232 (talk) 22:25, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
For fixsidebar:
mw.loader.load("//fa.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Gadget-fixsidebar.css&action=raw&ctype=text/css","text/css");
in common.js or
@import "//fa.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Gadget-fixsidebar.css&action=raw&ctype=text/css";
in common.css. Simply replace "side" with "top"... ;-) --Ricordisamoa 23:12, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
Thanks a lot :) --MehdiTalk 17:58, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
I tried both of the "fixsidebar" codes, but I'm not seeing any change. Anyone else have luck? Huntster (t @ c) 12:56, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Did Reagan meet freedom fighters or terrorists?

Does Reagan meet Afghan freedom fighters or Afghan terrorists?

In images obtained from photo archives it is important to preserve the original description. At the same time the description can be extremely POVish, leading to edit wars over the content. One example is the image File:Reagan sitting with people from the Afghanistan-Pakistan region in February 1983.jpg. The description, originally from the Ronald Reagan Library, has lead to an edit war over whether President Reagan meet Afghan freedom fighters or Afghan terrorists. There should be something in the {{Information}} template to state that the archive description should not be modified but should at the same time be viewed with extreme caution. -- Petri Krohn (talk) 11:31, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

We do have {{Original caption}} ; and I suppose we could generalise {{BArch-biased}}. Jean-Fred (talk) 12:06, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
