In your competition rules, it states the pictures should be uploaded in October or November 2014, guess it should be 2015

Quirijn 09:36, 2 October 2015 (UTC)

Hmmm. Thanks for your comment. I had a good look but I could not find where was the 2014 reference. Sorry. But yes, it is 2015. Anthere (talk)
I found it ! It was on the external website. I fixed it. Thank you Anthere (talk)

how can i upload video[edit]

Ahmed Emad H (talk) 00:32, 9 January 2017 (UTC) how can i upload video

Hello User:Ahmed Emad H

Exactly in the same way than uploading an image actually. Thanks

[@User:Ahmed Emad H], I am so sorry that I missed this request for information. I hope that you can now use it to enter Wiki Loves Africa 2017 ...
To submit a video file, it has to be submitted in the following formats:
  • .ogg
  • .ogv
  • .webm
Due to complex intellectual property rights issues, Wikimedia Commons can not accept video content submitted in any other format. A helpful 'how to' guide on how to convert video media into these formats can be this helpful guide or this manual if you are using VLC Media Player. There are two handy conversion tools available here:
As with photographs, you will need to be registered to submit and entry. Use the Upload Wizard to upload the converted file. Or, if already embedded ensure you add the following category to your file: Images from Wiki Loves Africa 2017 AND Images from Wiki Loves Africa 2017 in (enter your country name here). It is suggested that you upload video content one video at a time.Islahaddow (talk) 09:39, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Africa[edit]

Hi, I tried searching for answers on my own but no luck. I want to know if a person who lives in South Africa can enter the wiki loves Africa competition.

Thank you, and humble apologies if this is not the right place to ask. 18:53, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

Hello user: Yes you can ! Every african country is eligible. Thanks Anthere (talk) 20:01, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

Late submission[edit]

Good day,

My name is Gloria. I'd like to find out if I can still be considered for the Wiki loves Africa competition 2016 if I only submitted all my photos on 1 February 2017 (today) due to technical problems.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks Gloria

Gloria nz (talk) 12:45, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

Hello Gloria, apologies to reply so late in the year. Unfortunately, we could not accept late entries. Please still submit your photographs to Wikimedia Commons, if you think they illustrate a subject well. Thank you for wanting to take part - please submit photos for this year !! Is there any traning in any course for Liberia ?[edit]

Unfortunately, there is not :( I am sorry about that. I hope we get more wikipedians in Liberia in the future to do that ! Anthere (talk) 10:27, 2 October 2017 (UTC) 11:06, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

Organizer in Kenya[edit]

Hello, I see you don't have an organizer in Kenya. Can i be one?

hello. Very likely. Can you get in touch with us on twitter or Facebook ? Or provide a username ? Anthere (talk)

In some countries the contact team members are more than one and in my country there is only one, why? what is the criteria of choosing them? The second question is when uploading pictures do we upload pictures only or with a story?

The criteria is... teams who are interested and people available as well as knowledgeable. You may participate to the contest just the same
You may upload single pictures or pictures with a story. Your call. We would love stories. If you want to upload a story with images only, just make sure to name them in a way that we can recognize it is a story. If you want to add text as well, get in touch with us ! 00:58, 5 October 2017 (UTC) 22:12, 6 October 2017 (UTC) 22:17, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

je veux les sujets en arabe[edit] 07:44, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Hello! The competition covers the whole of Africa. So it does cover North Africa which is part of the larger Arab world. I hope you can get involved in the competition based on that.
salut! La compétition couvre l'ensemble de l'Afrique. Il couvre donc l'Afrique du Nord qui fait partie du monde arabe plus vaste. J'espère que vous pourrez participer à la compétition en fonction de cela. Islahaddow (talk) 10:43, 19 October 2017 (UTC) 13:05, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

how to submit a photo essay?[edit] 00:13, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

HI, I'd like to submit a photo essay but how can I make sure they stay together. For example, if I collect them in Google Slides will I be able to upload that?

Hello !! We are very glad to hear that you want to submit a photo essay!! To find out more on how to do that, go to this page where we have detailed what a photo essay involves and how to upload your images so that we can see them.

When uploading your photos to the Wiki Loves Africa competition using the Upload Wizard, please make sure that the photos are numbered sequentially -

  • Kisra Maker , Photo 1
  • Kisra Maker, I Photo 2
  • Kisra Maker, Sudan Photo 3, etc.

Using google slides or other presentation methods is not compatible with the licences, unless you download or save it as a pdf and then submit the pdf to the competition. But this is not ideal ... as, additionally, all images would then have to be submitted separately. Islahaddow (talk) 10:20, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

Uploading a photo essay[edit]

I'd like to build a photo essay with text and photos. How can I upload that as it wouldn't be in jpeg or png format? Thanks s*c*hart

S*c*hart (talk) 10:00, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

Hello! There are two options open to you:

1. You should upload all the images and ...

  1. make sure that each one is numbered
  2. provide a good image description for each image so that the story can be told. The image description box allows for longer text and we can make sure it is reformatted into a clearer story.

2. Alternatively, you can submit the individual images PLUS a PDF with the full story but then we have to re-create the story on the wiki page for you. Is Mauritius included in your competition as part of Africa?[edit] 05:38, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

Absolutely!!! Why would it not be? Here are the current submissions from Mauritius - we need a lot more ;-) !! Islahaddow (talk) 10:20, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

How can I be able to put my pictures for this contest because it sounds really interesting?[edit] 10:54, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

Number of photos[edit] 11:05, 18 October 2017 (UTC) How many photos am i allowed to submit for a single category?

Hello! You can enter as many photos as you like - as long as they are quality images that clearly show someone at Work. Good luck and I look forward to seeing your entries! Islahaddow (talk) 10:20, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

My country (Rwanda) is not organizing the event. I want to organize it, what are the requirements to do so. And what are the requirements also to have Wikimedia in my country is it possible to represent it here in Rwanda? Thanks

Detailed answer was provided on Facebook. The contest is open everywhere in Africa (and even beyond...) Anthere (talk) 21:03, 30 October 2017 (UTC) 18:06, 1 November 2017 (UTC) 01:23, 4 November 2017 (UTC)

Slightly offensive. Just saying.[edit]

Uhhh. Just letting you know that this is slightly offensive. What's the difference between Africans working and the rest of the world that a prize should be given?

No offense was meant... Anthere (talk) 06:56, 8 November 2017 (UTC) 06:05, 9 November 2017 (UTC) 05:59, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

People asking elsewhere[edit]

We are getting a lot of questions at Commons:Help desk that really should be asked here. I strongly urge that whoever is monitoring this page and trying to help should also start monitoring Commons:Help desk so that these users can get accurate answers, rather than people like me trying and probably failing to help them. - Jmabel ! talk 16:43, 30 November 2017 (UTC)

According to Commons:Wiki Loves Africa 2017/FAQ#Who's behind it?, that should be User:Anthere and User:Islahaddow. LX (talk, contribs) 18:53, 1 December 2017 (UTC)
Adding as well that many of the questions we get here, we also get in duplicate in Facebook (by the same people...). More questions were answered on Facebook than here... Anthere (talk)

Upload worked but release of copyright freezes[edit]

I tried in 3 browsers to upload the files using the tool. It seems to upload but the browser doesn't allow me to move past the copyright release step. I'm not sure what to try next.
