Wiki Loves Earth Bangladesh
1 May – 30 June 2024

Wiki Loves Earth is an international photographic competition to promote natural heritage sites around the world through Wikimedia projects (mainly Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons). Everybody can participate. There are a lot of natural heritage sites in all participating countries including Bangladesh. The goal of Wiki Loves Earth is to encourage people to take pictures of those natural sites, and to put them under a free licence so that others may access them through the Internet. To achieve that, an international contest will take place from 01 May 2024 to 30 June 2024. This page introduces the Bangladesh part of this competition which is going to be organized by Project Korikath.

  • Be self-uploaded during the contest period;
    You are also welcome to submit photos you may have taken in the past. What matters is that photos must be uploaded during the contest period (01 May 2024 to 30 June 2024)
  • Be under a free license;
  • Contain an identified natural monument / natural park / protected area etc.;
    Such a list of protected areas of Bangladesh can be found here. If you don't find the area in the list, use the blue lonely upload button at the very top of the list page. Project Korikath will separately evaluate whether your photos fall in the scope or not.
  • Have at least 2Mpx.[1]

Criteria

The jury will judge individual entries/ the uploaded photos based on the following criteria (in no particular order):

  • Technical quality
  • Originality
  • Potential usefulness and overall value of the image (including licensing) to the Wikimedia projects

General tips

  • Please be respectful and considerate of all fellow photographers and all other participants.
  • If you are photographing the interiors of a particular building, stop immediately if asked. Some places prohibit indoor photography, but in others you may be allowed to proceed if you ask permission.
  • Do not trespass on private property (it is perfectly OK, though, to take photographs of a private place, while standing in a public place such as the street).
  • Where possible, avoid photographing transport vehicles, especially their number plates.
  • Please do not upload images of posters, billboards, banners, signs, or anything else having text or two-dimensional images that might be copyright-protected. This applies even to texts or photos that are in a public place and that everyone else is taking pictures of. Ancient wall paintings in churches are fine, as are photos of stained glass windows of any date.
