In September, you may upload pictures (old or new) as you want from the given monuments list that you have visited. At the end of the month, the national jury will evaluate the photographs and select the best 10 pictures of the monuments in Nepal to submit to represent in the international finale. The international jury will then announce the international winners in December.

Theme of this year competition

The main theme of this year’s competition is to collect Quality Images, Valued Images and Featured Images of the monuments of Nepal that could not be covered in the previous editions as well as images from priority list of cultural heritage sites. We encourage participants to upload only high definition photos self taken from Cameras. Smartphones photography does not qualify for Quality images of Commons but you still want to upload mobile photos to this competition, please check the priority list. Additionally, we are also focused to gather images of Monuments that was damaged by the 2015 earthquake as well images of Monuments that is under construction, during construction and was restored. You can check the submitted entries so far through this competition.

The Jury

Our jury will process the images through two or three rounds during October. At the end of this process, the jury determines the top-10. If there are any doubts about the implementation of the rules, the jury decides.

Judging criteria

The jury will determine the winners of the international contest taking into the consideration the following criteria (in no particular order):

  • Technical quality (sharpness, use of light, perspective etc.);
  • Originality;
  • Usefulness of the image for Wikipedia.

Images that reach a top ranking of the international finale, will typically at least fulfill the technical criteria of the ‘Featured Image’ process at Wikimedia Commons. But feel free to submit images, and let the jury be concerned if they are good enough.
