Azerbaijan will do it again! by Interfase, August 2023. Participating countries Azerbaijani Wikipedians announce their participation in the largest photo contest in the world, Wiki Loves Monuments. Users are invited to take pictures of cultural heritage monuments, then, during the month of September and October, upload their best shots in Wikimedia Commons. You have pictures of monuments stalled in your computer since your last trip? This is a great opportunity to give them a second life in this Wiki Loves Monuments contest. In addition to being seen by everyone, your pictures could be included in Wikipedia and contribute to the preservation of Azerbaijan's cultural and historical heritage. Freely licensed photos collected through Wiki Loves Monuments may also be reused elsewhere than in Wikipedia. Photos may have been taken at any time. The key criteria to be eligible for the contest are that they are to be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons in September and October 2023... and that they have been taken by you, of course! Please note that only the photos upload in September will be eligible for the international competition, the ones upload in October will not be considered. Combine the pleasant and the useful There is no minimum age to participate, and there is no participation fee. Besides WLM being a competition, it is first a fun activity, ideal for families. The competition also allows us to inform our cultural heritage, while improving our photographic talents! Wiki Loves Monuments is an international photographic competition to promote historic sites around the World through Wikimedia projects (mainly Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons). Everybody can participate. There are a lot of historic monuments in all participating countries. The goal of Wiki Loves Monuments is to encourage people to take pictures of those monuments, and to put them under a free licence so that others may access them through the Internet. To achieve that, an international contest will take place in September and October 2023. This page introduces the Azerbaijani part of this competition. In September and October, you may upload as many picture as you want of monuments that you have visited. Pictures don't have to be taken in September or October, but must be uploaded that month to be considered. At the end of the month, the contest jury will begin evaluating the photographs and will choose the best 10 pictures of the monuments in Azerbaijan, and ultimately in the world. But only the photos upload in September will be eligible for the international competition. Upload your photos in September or October How to participate Step 1: Find monuments in your locality. Check: are they in the lists of the monuments? Note the monument ID! Step 2: Make photos of the monuments. Make as much and as good photos of as many monuments as you can. Step 3: Classify your photos: which ID belongs to which monument? Step 4: Upload your photos to Wikimedia Commons from 1 September to 31 October. Freedom of Panorama Please note, that there is no yet freedom of panorama in Azerbaijan, so we can only upload photos of monuments if the architect died before 1953, or if the building was constructed before this date (if the architect is unknown).
