The Wiki Science Competition (WSC) is an international photo competition for sciences, organized by Wikimedians in Thailand aiming to promote and engage people with science in Thailand and beyond. It will take place between 15 November – 15 December 2021. This competition was first organized in Estonia. In 2015, the contest was expanded to all of Europe. European Science Photo Competition resulted in almost 10,000 freely licensed images attracting over 2,200 contesters. This year is the first time it will be organized globally.

This competition was brought to Wikipedia because Wikipedia is an active platform dedicated to collecting and sharing educational content freely to everyone. Being open access, and 7th most accessed website in the world are just some of the features of Wikipedia that make it an excellent platform for science and science photos in particular. Science photo competition is a motivational framework for catalyzing the formation of sustainable relationship between the scientists and Wikimedia community.

Wiki Science Competition consists of two levels: there is a local competition in each participating country and the local organizing team will forward chosen pictures to the international competition.

Submissions must be made between 15 November – 15 December 2021 with an e-mail registered Wikimedia account.

There is no limit to the number of images one can upload. If you upload more than one image, only one highest prize is eligible. The rest shall be awarded to the next highest scoring entrant.

The image must be published under a free use license or as public domain. The possible licenses are CC-BY-SA 4.0, CC-BY 4.0, CC0 1.0, and similar.

Images entered into the competition must be taken or authored by submitter of the image. In case of multiple authors, all the co-authors’ names must be provided. In case of institutional uploads, submission can be made by a representative of the organization.

The image needs to have a good scientific description. Description in English is required for every submitted image, although descriptions in other languages are also welcomed.

Upload the highest resolution possible. The image size should be at least 2 megapixels, unless the technology used does not allow it. The image must not contain water mark, logo, additional text, graphics, or insets.

The reconstruction is based on the closely related Ichthyovenator laosensis and a sail fossil from Khok Kruat Formation that could possibly be from Siamosaurus.
