Meeting Time on Saturday?[edit]

Hi Guys, I'm Matthew the local guide. Thanks for coming today. I've heard people requesting to meet at 6pm tomorrow so we can start early & end earlier. What do you all think?--Mleemy (talk) 16:44, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Matt, actually I think that is a good idea. It is a bit short-term but I will tell everybody I know and will ask them to tell others. Btw, thanks for your help and patience, you are a great guide!! Poco2 16:58, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Sorry folks, tried to meet you yesterday at Central, waited for almost one hour, then left (the queue at the Peak Tram was simply to long for waiting in the humid heat). Today I left my walking shoes at the hotel for pick up after the conference, planning for 7.15 pm. Won't make it to the earlier meeting time therefore. Sorry, would have loved to meet you (even though my camera isn't made for night tours). --Schwäbin (talk) 04:44, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
Too bad, I'm sorry to read that. Still, if you want we can meet today at 7:30 at the Avenue of Stars. Al the best, Poco2 07:07, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Places to shoot[edit]

Besides the obvious candidates harbor and peak, I suggest visiting the night markets. --Dschwen (talk) 22:54, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

Do you think that we can visit all these places in 3-4 hours?. I will get in touch with the organisation of Wikimania to try to get a local who can help us a bit to plant it and to get around. Poco a poco (talk) 21:08, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
I think, we need more time. Good idea with the Local. --Ralf Roleček 18:56, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
We'll need way more time. Why not focus on one subject (on our side of the harbor) and meet another day/night if it was successful. --Dschwen (talk) 21:58, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
Obviously time is not enough, a whole day would not be enough to photograph the fourth of the monuments (in the case of focusing only on monuments). --The Photographer (talk) 16:38, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
By the way, I contacted the organisation 1 month ago asking for a local, but so far no answer... Poco2 22:08, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

Date for the photowikimeetup[edit]

We are already a bunch of people, so we should definitely meet and start the coordination. I propose to organize it on Friday, June 9th, and, in case there is still interested people, we could carry-on one day later. Why the 9th? I guess that the 7th is too early and not everybody will be available yet, and in the evening of June 8th takes place the welcome party from 6 - 9 p.m, see schedule. On Friday and Saturday the official schedule ends at 5:30 p.m. and so that there would be plenty of time to go out and have both nice pictures with daylight and at night. What do you think?. Poco2 15:21, 15 June 2013 (UTC) PD: After we agree on the date I'd contact the organisation to get support of a local.

I know is a little late for that, but why not day 12? We could spend that day walking around and taking pictures. Béria Lima msg 15:51, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
I'm leaving on the 12th. --Dschwen (talk) 15:57, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
I am also leaving on the 12th. I guess, that there are not so many options actually, and looking at the official schedule I still think that the best date overall would be Friday for a first stage and Saturday for a second one, if needed. On the 11th occurs the same like on the 8th, but in this case with the closing party from 18:30 to midnight. I'd like to communicate the date to the Wikimania organisation, may I mention 9th and 10th? Poco2 16:37, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
That's fine with me. --Dschwen (talk) 23:57, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

Can amateurs (eg. people who are not really photo gurus) join, too? Teemeah (talk) 10:38, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

Yes, of course! --Ralf Roleček 11:16, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks :) Teemeah (talk) 12:34, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

Time to make a concrete proposal[edit]

So, time is running out fast and I think that it is time to tie things.

  • When: I propose to meet on Friday at 7 p.m. (the official program ends at 5:30), which is sunset time
  • Where: in the lobby of the Jockey Club Auditorium. We should leave latest 7:15 p.m.
  • Tour: we take the Star Ferry over to Hong Kong Island to enjoy the view and take pictures from the Victoria peak of the skyline and the harbour
  • On Saturday, as proposed by Dschwen, we can go to the markets, which one do you mean Dschwen? In Kowloon? Poco2 22:11, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
    • Yep, Mong Kok, Temple Street. --Dschwen (talk) 03:19, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
      • Ok, thanks for the quick answer, I put everything together and made concrete proposals and tried to plan it a little bit Poco2 11:03, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
    • One remark I'd like to make is that the HK skyline from Victoria peak has been photographed a lot. We'd be replicating other peoples shots (we even had great FPs of that view IIRC). That being said, Victoria Peak is beautiful view that is certainly worth a trip.--Dschwen (talk) 15:35, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

first pictures[edit]

Great, thanks for sharing Ralf. Mine will take a while yet. My backlog is growing and growing :( Poco2 07:13, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
...I had bad conscience and uploaded the first two although I hope there are better than these among all others:
I also created a category for the uploaded material out of the wikimeetup: Category:Wikimania 2013 Photowikimeetup Poco2 16:35, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Commons at Wikimania 2014[edit]

For me, the photomeetup was one of the highlights of this year's Wikimania. So, let's get together again in London: Commons:Wikimania 2014. --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 17:55, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

I am happy to read that, sure we do it next year!, I am just a bit surprised about beginning already with the preparation. As I promised to some colleagues, I'd like to hold a conference in London, I included it. Poco2 18:24, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
Yes, it was great! Let us meet in London. --Ralf Roleček 19:05, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
@Poco: Dschwen and I started talking about this in Hong Kong. And I guess it will be best to get into touch with the London organizers as soon as possible. The earlier they know of this, the better they can plan for it ;-) @All: thank you so much for signing up and for the great presentation ideas. --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 19:57, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks or organizing the meetup. It was very nice to meet so many of you in person for the first time. I would like to join the conference. Let me know where you need help. --Matthias Süßen (talk) 09:26, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
