A crêpe is a thin pancake, a meal made of wheat popular throughout Europe and elsewhere. Crêpes are usually of two types: sweet crêpes made with wheat flour, and galettes made with buckwheat flour. Crepes are used to celebrate shrove Tuesday by Christians because they contain simple store-cupboard ingredients, symbolising the ridding of all food for lent, which lasts 40 days, leading up to Easter.
