Looking south to the Federal District buildings. Far right is the former Portal de Mercaderes. All buildings will be decorated for the 2010 Bicentenario celebrations

The two twin buildings on the south side of the main plaza or Zocalo of Mexico City are home to Mexico City's city governement. The right-hand or west building is the original "Palacio de Ayuntamiento" (City Hall Palace) and has been the site of city government since the 1520s. The left-hand or east building is newer, from the 20th century but done in neo-colonial style.
