Summary[edit]

Description
English: Three alert alpacas They came to keep an eye on the dog which accompanied us. A smaller relative of the llama, alpacas are herd animals and become stressed if kept alone, even for short periods. They should be kept in groups of three or more. Alpacas can be run with other animals such as goats and sheep and provide good protection from foxes. They are members of the camel family, along with llamas, vicunas, guanacos, and camels and are native to South America, coming from the high altitudes of the Andes of Chile, Peru and Bolivia, where they have been kept for their luxurious fleece for thousands of years.
