a. But all the files would not, necessarily, be used orworn out in the first year; therefore, for two or three years equipmentit would be unwise to multiply this total by two or three. Suppose there were ten thousand machine shop mechanics. Dividingthis quantity by eleven, to get the number, of such units, and multiplyingthe number of files in a unit by the result, it makes an astoundingquantity of files. Therefore, some person who understands far betterthan we do the kind and variety of repairing and the need for files inthese units, should go over our estimates most carefully. We hesitate to submit these figures, but we want to be of assistance,and this is the result at which we arrive by using our best judgment inconnection with the information at hand. The General Supplies Division 27 of the superintendent of the factory for comparison, it was found to beabout in accordance with the run or the output of this factory. The run of each factory was then considered by the othermanufacturers independently, and by combining the results itwas found a unit of all styles and kinds was reduced from 312dozen to 305 dozen per year per unit, wh:ch established thequantities, styles, and sizes that would be used in a shop doingall classes of work.
