English: "The Girl" Llansannan. A bronze statue situated in the village centre by the sculptor Goscombe John, William . Unveiled by Thomas Ellis on 23 May 1899. The origin of 'The Girl' is unclear there are many different stories that she was from the village or belonged to a wealthy local family or even that she represents ' Wales mourning past glories.' The inscriptions on the monument are to Tudur Aled, poet (died c. 1526). William Salesbury, scholar and linguist (born c.1520). Henry Rees, Gwilym Hiraethog and Iorwerth Glan Aled 19th century Calvinistic Methodist writers and preachers. |
