Balkans Rail Trip, Autumn 2013 - Day Twelve

During the 55 minutes or so I had at Librazhd station I spotted a collection of timetables near the ticket window. Unfortunately three out of the four on display were partially or completely out of date! As mentioned in the adjacent photo, train services used to continue through to Pogradec until early 2012 which is still reflected in the table written in blue ink. The same applies to the large laminated sheet and a smaller A4 table to the left. An updated departure sheet written in black and green felt tip pen is the one to aim for if planning to take the train. Quite why they haven't removed the older, out of date ones is anyone's guess!

On a more positive note, the table to the left is a list of fares from Librazhd. Albanian Railways set their fares into zones and are extremely cheap. Also they appear not to have increased for several years. For instance a full fare single to the capital Tiranë taking around 5 hours 30 minutes is 230 Lek = £1.40 / €1.65 (as of October 2013). However, the table still indicates fares to stations on the section of line to Pogradec which currently has no service. Perhaps optimistically the Albanian Railways hope to reinstate trains and continue to use the fares chart!
