Summary[edit]

Description

Beautiful old reliquary or Byeri figure. The base has extensive termite and weather erosion and the figure has old cracks which do not detract from the glossy old worn patina. Measures : 63 x 10 x 10cm

Fang reliquary figures were guardians of the enshrined relics of important ancestors. Sitting on top of cylindrical containers, they were also consulted for aid and protection. They are notable for their child-like proportions contrasted with a muscular, poised vigilance.
