Summary[edit]

Description
English: Scarce usage of Hampden machine cancellation on a postal card of Cuba used during the U.S. intervention on 5 October, 1899. Only one machine was in the country of Cuba and usage is documented only between 30 September 1899 and 30 October 1899. The inscription reads: "Havana, Cuba Oct-5 2-PM -99". The underlying postal card is a provisional issue of the U.S. government which, to save time and money, overprinted U.S. postal cards with the impression, "Cuba. - 1c. de Peso."
