Summary[edit]
Description18 June 1815 – Victory at Waterloo – Monument Gordon, Monument to the K.G.L.jpg |
English: The first two munuments erected on the Battlefield of Waterloo were the Monument to Lt Colonel Sir Alexander Gordon, erected in 1817 ►(File:18_June_1805_–_Victory_at_Waterloo_–_Monument_Gordon.jpg), and the Monument to the Hanoverians (King's German Legion), erected in 1818. Two more monuments were also built soon after the Battle : the Monument to the Prussian Army at Plancenoit, in 1818, and the memorial to the Count Wilhelm von Schwerin near the center of Lasne, both much futher away – which shows the extent of the battelfield. The more eye-catching Lion's Mound ►(File:18_June_1815_–_Victory_at_Waterloo,_memorial.jpg) was built from 1823 to 1826. |
