English: Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) as a cover crop following maize June 2004, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa). Maize residues together with the ryegrass are used as winter fodder for livestock. In spring (August-September), the grass is allowed to grow without further grazing, then killed with herbicide before the following crop (maize or soyabean) is planted using a no-till planter.
