Description2433-2443 18th Street, NW.JPG |
English: Late 19th-century homes, located at 2433–2443 18th Street, N.W., in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Built in 1897 for developer John Sherman, 2433–2443 were designed by noted architect Waddy B. Wood, all but one in the Italianate and Queen Anne architectural styles. Converted to commercial use in the 1920s, the shops and restaurants are designated as contributing properties to the Washington Heights Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. From 1956 to 1962, pioneering gay rights activist Frank Kameny lived in a top-floor apartment at 2435 18th Street, N.W., the dark brown building visible on the right-hand side. |
