Description
English: Astronaut Alan B. Shepard Jr., chief, astronaut office, NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, chomps vigorously on a cigar during relaxing moments following the Gemini-6 liftoff. He is seated at his console in the Kennedy Space Center Mission Control Center. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) successfully launched Gemini-6 from Pad 19 at 8:37 a.m. (EST) Dec. 15, 1965. A two-day mission in space was scheduled for astronauts Walter M. Schirra Jr., command pilot; and Thomas P. Stafford, pilot. An attempt will be made to rendezvous Gemini-6 and Gemini-7. Image ID: S65-61812
