Kunzite with Albite
This stunning small cab is NOT afghani as your eyes would have you first believe! Instead, it is the best for its size that I saw from a lot of several dozen pieces at Tucson that had just came in from the old tourmaline mines at Barra de Salinas. Despite the fact that such crystal sharpness and form is almost unheard of in Brazil (til now), I have no doubt, as this is from a trusted source who has brought out MANY finds from the Coronel Murta and Pederneira mining regions there. The crystal has a SHARP and wonderfully formed termination without tapering. the width extending up through to the tip , unusual for kunzites which tend to show an etched or pointy tapering. The color is even better on the c axis but here again the crystal is unusual in that the pink is just as intense along the a and b axes. The crystal thickness and width is 1.5 cm. There is a teeny orange spessartine garnet, in the albite next, by the way.
