Description
Deutsch: Museumsquartier St. Annen in Lübeck. St. Jürgen-Gruppe aus der St.-Jürgen-Kapelle von Henning van der Heide. Eiche und Fremdmaterialien, Lübeck 1504/05. Die wirklichkeitsnahe gestaltete Gruppe stellt den Hl. Jürgen (Georg) auf einem Apfelschimmel im Kampf mit dem Drachen dar, während die Prinzessin um den Sieg des Ritters betet. Der ursprüngliche große Drache lag auf dem Rücken und schlug seine Pranke in die Brust des Pferdes. 1629 wurde er beim Abriss der Kapelle und ihrem Wiederaufbau weiter außerhalb der Stadt durch ein kleineres Exemplar ersetzt; seine Haltung musste der geringeren Größe der neuen Kapelle angepasst werden.
