Upon the crown of this emi- nence, an area of three acres is sur»rounded by a wall and ditch, makingthe place a fortress of immense strength.Other strange ancient works, older thantradition, may be found in Warren,Spencer, Boone, La Rue, Montgomery,Barren, and Bourbon Counties. Route. Tourists from the Easterncities will reach the Mammoth Cave viaCincinnati and Louisville, and proceedthence by the Louisville and NashvilleRailway, and by stage. The railwaypasses, or will pass, within 10 miles ofthe cave. From the South and West,travellers will take the stage route fromNashville for Louisville, stopping atBells. Steamers ply on the GreenRiver from Louisville, to within a mileonly of the cave. The Mammoth Cave is in EdmonsonCounty, south of the centre of the State.
