Title
English: Application for Registration of Trademark by R.C. Erskine, May 17, 1905
Description
English: Robert Chase Erskine (1876-1971) came to Seattle in 1899 and became a prominent businessman, elected three times as president of the Seattle Real Estate Association. Having upheld a boyhood pledge to his mother to never drink alcohol, when he died at age 95 he left a six-figure trust fund to promote total abstinence from alcohol in the young. A street in West Seattle, Erskine Way SW, is named for him.

This certificate from the U.S. Secretary of State's office confirms Application for Registration of Trademark #627 from Robert Erskine, a real estate and loan business owner in Seattle, doing business at 712 New York Block. The application concerned a small sign board that could be attached to legal documents, indicating who owned or created the documents. An example is attached to the certificate using R.C. Erskine's name, title and address.
