Die 1521 von Jacob Fugger dem Reichen gestiftete Reihenhaussiedlung ist die älteste Sozialsiedlung der Welt. Noch heute wohnen da bedürftige katholische Augsburger Bürger für eine Wohnungsmiete von unter einem Euro (88 Cent). The 1521 by Jacob Fugger the Rich donated row house is the oldest social settlement in the world. Today as Catholic needy citizens of Augsburg stay for an apartment rent of less than one euro (88 cents).

Die Stadt wurde 15 v. Chr von Kaiser Augustus als Castro gegründet. Der Name Augsburg geht auf die spätere römische Provinzhauptstadt Augusta Vindelicorum oder Augusta Vindelicum zurück. Augsburg gehört damit zu den ältesten Städten Deutschlands.

The city was founded in 15 BC by Emperor Augustus as Castro. The name goes back to the later Roman provincial capital Vindelicorum Augusta or Augusta Vindelicum. Augsburg is one of the oldest cities in Germany.
