Summary[edit]

Description
English: Detail of one of the horizontal bands of a Balawat gate. The wood is a modern one and the bronze strips or bands are electrotype copies. Balawat is the ancient city of Imgur-Enlil, in modern-day Nineveh Governorate, Iraq. It was an Assyrian city where remains of large gates were excavated at the palace of Shalmaneser III (reigned 859-824 BCE). The is replica is in the British Museum, London.
