Description
Français : Banc public à étage, du XVIIIème siècle, Rondeau des Bougeries, commune de Chêne-Bougeries, Genève. Le plateau supérieur permettait aux paysans venant vendre leurs marchandises aux marchés de Genève d'y déposer leur paniers pendant un temps de repos.

«De partout alentour on venait des campagnes avec, sur les épaules ou à dos de bêtes, des paniers remplis de vivres, de pitances à vendre, des charrettes pleines du fruit des récoltes, du produit des terres. Rare témoin et l’un des derniers vestiges du commerce quotidien qui nourrit Genève, le banc à étage placé au centre du rondeau des Bougeries. Savoyards ou Genevois des Mandements, lourdement chargés, y posaient leurs hottes sur le plateau supérieur du banc, tout en prenant un bref repos avant d’aller écouler leurs victuailles sur les marchés de Genève, entre autres.» Mots de l'archiviste 2009, commune de Chêne-Bougeries, citant D.
