Bahasa Indonesia: Pada awal abad ke 20, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta pernah menjadi wilayah yang memiliki 19 pabrik gula. Pabrik-pabrik tersebut tersebut tersebar ke berbagai wilayah tanah yang dimiliki oleh Kraton Yogyakarta dan Kadipaten Pakualaman. Namun, sejak masa krisis ekonomi pada 1930 hingga masa agresi militer. Seluruh pabrik gula tersebut hilang dan hanya meninggalkan beberapa tinggalan seperti reruntuhan pabrik dan rumah dinas karyawan. Pabrik Gula Sewugalur yang berdiri di wilayah Kulon Progo, diketahui telah ditinggalkan sejak masa kedudukan Jepang yang menginvasi Indonesia. Hingga saat ini, sisa yang paling jelas dan menjadi bukti keberadaannya hanyalah beberapa tinggalan bekas rumah dinas yang masih tegak berdiri dan beberapa diantaranya dihuni oleh masyarakat sekitar. |
