Summary[edit]
English: Residential building at Voßstraße No. 33 in Berlin-Mitte. It was built 1884 to 1886 by architect Wilhelm Böckmann as his private home. The house was situated next to the government buildings on Wilhelmstraße and to the large commercial buildings on Voßstraße. Consequentially, Böckmann created a formidable red sandstone facade showing elements of both Baroque and Renaissance architecture. At the inside of the building, the entrance hall and two rooms upstairs with coffered ceilings have been preserved in their original outlook. The building was taken over by the neighboring Reich's Railway Directorate in 1934 and received two additional stories. This is in fact the only historic building on Voßstraße which survived WWII. It is landmarked. |
