Great are conventions to con-sider all kinds of reform, but the men and women who aredoing most for the poor, are almost none of them in conven-tions, but are handpickers at work in the slums and among thedestitute. There are such men and women whose names arenever in the newspapers, who know where the poor live andwhere the orphan children are. They are everywhere presentwhere help is needed.
