Català: Bol amb escenes bíbliques de probable funció litúrgica, l'Almoina, segle IV dC, València.
És un recipient hemisfèric de vidre translúcid de gran qualitat, amb escenes finament tallades de clara simbologia cristiana. L'escena principal, emmarcada per palmeres, està composta per un Crist nimbat com a personatge central, representat entre dos crismons i rodejat per sant Pere que ha rebut el rotllo de la llei, i de sant Pau, testimoni de la teofania. El tema representat és el Dominus legem dat, matèria recurrent, juntament amb la Traditio legis, de la iconografia cristiana i símbol de l'Església com a dipositària del llegat de Crist. Les altres seqüències es troben repartides als frisos continus que reprodueixen escenes de caràcter bíblic: les noces de Canà, la resurrecció de Llàtzer, el tema dels orants i per últim Daniel i la serp sagrada. La seua funció seria litúrgica i es trobà en un edifici relacionat directament amb el martiri de sant Vicent. Té el valor afegit de ser l'objecte cristià més antic de València. relacionat amb aquesta peça, aparegué, també a l'Almoina, un fragment xicotet, presumiblement d'un altre bol litúrgic, on es representa Daniel al fossat dels lleons, i del qual malauradament no hi aparegué més que un tros. Les dues obres foren realitzades a Roma pel mestre Daniel al segle IV, obradors on el tallament arribà a una gran dimensió estilística. |
