Heading back to the hotel in Beaune, before we later returned to the centre of town for the wine cellars tour. The weather had got much better by this point!
The other side of the La Bouzaize river in Beaune that I earlier saw that morning on the walking tour. La Bouzaise is a river in the department of Côte-d'Or in the former Burgundy region and in the new Burgundy-Franche-Comté region , and a tributary of the Meuzin , thus a sub-tributary of the Rhone by the Dheune and Saône .
The Saint-Jacques laundrette was built in 1887 at the foot of the ramparts, where La Bouzaize emerges in the open air after its mysterious passage under the Hôtel-Dieu. The laundry was used for a long time, and was used by laundry washers in a laundry next door. On the other side of the boulevard was the quarter of the tanners, whose nauseous vats were dug on the ground. Not long ago, one could still see the wooden shutters ventilating the granaries where the skins were left to dry. |
