| Description |
Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) strain 4A4, as viewed at 1000x magnification after gram staining. Bt is a bacterium that is used in a variety of pesticidal applications; 4A4 is acutely toxic to nematodes, which are essentially small worms, and often agricultural pests. Toxin genes from other strains of Bt have been inserted into crops as a means of insecticide, and the bacterium is also used generally as a pesticide. This image is licensed with a Creative Commons Attribution license. I did this for this image (not all of mine, most are all rights reserved), as I believe that scientific knowledge and images are worth sharing with the world; this license means that you are free to use my image in whatever way you want, so long as you give me credit ("Attribution"). |
