Bundeskanzler Konrad Adenauer und der französische Staatspräsident Charles de Gaulle unterzeichneten am 22.1.1963 im Pariser Elysée-Palast einen Vertrag über die deutsch-französische Zusammenarbeit, der politische Konsultationen beider Regierungen und eine verstärkte Zusammenarbeit in der Außen- und Verteidigungspolitik sowie in Erziehungs- und Jugendfragen festgelegt. Regelmäßige Treffen zwischen den Regierungschefs und den zuständigen Ressortministern beider Länder sollen die praktische Durchführung des Vertrages gewährleisten.
