Der Eulenspiegelbalkon In Magdeburg
Das alte Rathaus von Magdeburg, an dem die zur Zeit im Bau befindliche grosse Ost-West-Strasse vorbeiführen wird, ist zum Großteil wieder hergestellt worden. Die Hauptfassade des Rathauses mit dem bekannten Eulenspiegelbalkon wird z. Zt. wieder instandgesetzt. Von dem Balkon heisst es in der Heimatgeschichte, dass er der Schauplatz eines der Streiche von Till Eulenspiegel gewesen ist. Eulenspiegel hatte öffentlich bekanntgemacht, er wolle zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt vom Balkon aus auf den Alten Markt hinunterfliegen. Tatsächlich fand sich eine grosse Menschenmenge ein, um den Schalk fliegen zu sehen. Till Eulenspiegel stieg auf den Balkon, breitete die Arme aus, als wollte er fliegen, hielt aber dann lachend inne und sagte, "Ja, meine Lieben, ich will wohl fliegen, aber ich kann leider nicht! Ich habe nicht gedacht, dass es in der Welt noch Toren und Narren ausser mir gäbe. Hier sehe ich eine ganze Stadt davon!"

UBz: Blick auf den Alten Markt und das Rathaus mit dem Eulenspiegel-Balkon. Neben dem Rathaus entstehen die grossen Wohnbauten der Ost-West-Strasse, zu der der Stellvertreter des Ministerpräsidenten Walter Ulbricht den Grundstein legte.
