Summary[edit]

Description
English: Lotus (Nymphaea) is a genus name for an aquatic plant from the Nymphaeaceae tribe. In English it is known as water-lily or waterlily. In Indonesia, lotus is also used to refer to plants from the genus Nelumbo (lotus). In ancient times, people often confused plants of the Nelumbo genus such as sacred lotus with the Nymphaea (lotus) genus. In Nelumbo, the flowers are above the water surface (they don't float), the petals are flushed red (white to yellow lotus), the leaves are full circle and the rhizome is usually consumed. Plants grow on the surface of still water. Flowers and leaves are on the surface of the water, coming out of the stalks that come from rhizomes in the mud at the bottom of ponds, rivers or swamps. The stalk is in the middle of the leaf. Leaves are circular or broad oval in shape which are cut off at the radius towards the stalk. The surface of the leaves does not contain a waxy coating so that the water that falls on the surface of the leaves does not form water droplets.
