Nederlands: Het leerbewerken en looien is een specialisme van de trommelaars, zij bekleden evenals de smid een aparte positie binnen een dorp. Als bespelers van de diverse trommen zijn ze onmisbaar bij vrijwel alle rituele en maatschappelijke gebeurtenissen.
De opname is gemaakt tijdens één van de twee verzamelexpedities die het Tropenmuseum in 1970-1971 ondernam ter voorbereiding op de grote tentoonstelling in 1971-1972, getiteld 'Samo. Een Afrikaans Savannevolk in ontwikkeling'. De expedities duurden elk drie maanden en werden uitgevoerd door de heren J.T. Broekhuijse en F.M. Cowan. |
