| Description |
Nederlands: Negatief. De missie op Flores was een bijzonder geval. Delen van Flores (de naam alleen al doet denken aan het Iberisch schiereiland) waren al in de 16e eeuw door de Portugezen bezocht en 'gemissioneerd'. Ook toen de Portugezen bijna overal elders uit de Archipel verjaagd waren door de VOC, bleven ze op Timor en Flores vestigingen en invloed houden. In tegenstelling tot Oost-Timor werden de Portugese enclaves op Flores in de 19e eeuw aan het Nederlands-Indisch gouvernement overgedragen. Het bestuur moest daarbij beloven de zorg voor de bekeerde inheemse bevolking over te nemen. Dat werd toen gedaan door Nederlandse missionarissen. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
